Cleverley (ankle) is three weeks ahead of schedule and targeting a return against Manchester United on Oct. 17, Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo reports.

Cleverley avoided surgery, which is a huge step for the former Red Devil as he hopes to face off against his former club. Since being acquired on a free transfer over the summer, Cleverley has made five appearances for Everton and has yet to break duck in the goal scoring column. His return would be a huge boost to Everton as he hasn't played since Aug. 29.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cleverley is expected to be sidelined for at least two months because of the ankle injury he suffered against Spurs before the international break, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Cleverley has been a steady producer for Everton, though he's not a big goal scorer and doesn't get nearly enough assists to make him a viable fantasy option in most formats.

Cleverley exited Saturday's match against the Spurs on a stretcher shortly before halftime with an apparent injury to his ankle.

Cleverley's ankle badly rolled under Eric Dier's sliding tackle Saturday which caused Cleverley to immediately fall to the ground in pain while calling for a physio. As a result, Cleverley should be considered lucky if he only comes away with a severely sprained ankle, denoting that he'll likely miss an indefinite amount of time while rehabbing.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cleverley led Everton with 10 crosses in a 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

It was unclear what role Cleverley would play for Everton at the beginning of the season, but he seems to be playing a winger-midfield role that attacks down the right flank. He has also seemingly secured a starting role with the club and he's always showed some promise in stints with Wigan and Manchester United. Look for him to start again next Saturday in a matchup against Spurs.

Cleverley is expected to sign with Everton after opening talks with the club earlier in the week, according to the Daily Mail.

The midfielder spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, which hoped to sign him to a permanent deal. It appears as though Everton has won the race to sign him, though. Cleverley is expected to sign within the next few days.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Just a few weeks after Cleverley hinted that he would stay at Aston Villa next summer Everton have opened talks about a potential transfer, reports the Daily Mail.

Cleverley still has the Aston Villa option on the table, but is fielding interest from Everton as well as some German sides. The midfielder had a productive season, reaching the FA Cup Final, after leaving Manchester United.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cleverley hinted that he may stay at Aston Villa and that his decision to choose a club wouldn't be based on money, according to Sky Sports.

Cleverley is on loan from Manchester United, but will also become a free agent this summer. Cleverley added that he wanted to be at a club where he fits in.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cleverley has recovered from his groin injury, but he is ineligible to play Saturday against Manchester United, his parent club.

Cleverely isn't a great fantasy option in most formats given his role as a defensive midfielder, so his absence this weekend shouldn't put too many owners into a panic. His next opportunity to play will come Wednesday against QPR.
