Allen is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks because of the knee injury he suffered last weekend against Swindon Town, manager Brendan Rodgers said Friday.

Given the timeline, Allen may be able to return Sept. 12 against Manchester United, which comes after the international break, though that assumes he is setback free during his recovery.

Allen will undergo a scan on his hamstring after suffering an injury during Sunday's friendly with Swindon Town, ESPN FC reports.

Manager Brendan Rodgers noted that the clubs fears the injury could be serious, though Allen wasn't likely headed for significant playing time, so his fantasy value isn't overly affected.

Allen played in 21 Premier League matches over the course of the 2014-15 season. He collected five clean sheets and one goal during his time on the pitch.

Allen got off to a slow start this season after picking up a knee injury during international duty with Wales, resulting in a prolonged stint on the bench from early September into late October. He picked up steam as the season progressed, however, and managed to start in nine of his last 13 Premier League appearances to close out his third season at Anfield. Looking ahead, he has two more years left on his current contract with Liverpool and remains an early favorite to be in the starting XI at the onset of the 2015-16 season.

Allen came on in the 65th minute for Emre Can in Liverpool's 3-2 victory over QPR on Sunday.

Allen had been sidelined for over a month with a knee injury but finally picked up some minutes off the bench. With Emre Can back fit, and getting the start in this game, it's unclear who is manager Brendan Rodgers' preferred defensive option to play alongside Steven Gerrard. Either way Allen or Can don't have much value in fantasy leagues due to their defensive midfield roles.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed Friday that Allen (knee) has looked "really well" in training, and he should be available for Sunday's match at QPR.

Allen has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury while on international duty for Wales back in September, but he appears to have finally made his way back to fitness. He's not a great fantasy option in most leagues due to his defensive traits, but he'll be a big boost to the Liverpool defensive effort.
