Szczesny (thigh) started well Euro 2016 with a clean sheet, though, an injury ended prematurely the rest of his campaign and he remained at 27 caps. Poland had a dramatic exit to the tournament after a penalty shoot-out loss to Portugal in the Quarterfinals.

Szczesny had a great campaign playing on-loan with Roma last season. The 26-year-old keeper kept eight clean sheet and hauled in 99 saves while starting all 34 Serie A matches on the way to helping Roma qualify for the Champions League. The Italian side is trying to bring him back with an extended loan spell.

Szczesny did not play Thursday against Germany because of a thigh injury.

Szczesny kept a clean sheet in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland at the Euros.

After a strong season for Roma on loan from Arsenal, Szczesny came in to this tournament in good form, having not lost a match in Serie A since Jan. 24. Szczesny wasn't tested all afternoon and the Northern Irish didn't put the Polish defense under much duress. That will change over Poland's next two matches against Ukraine and Germany as they look to advance into the knockout stages.

Szczesny gave up two goals, but had eight saves in the 2-0 loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday, during the Champions League Round of 16.

Szczesny did all he could in the loss with eight saves, but his defense just could not hold up against the attack of Real Madrid. While he and AS Roma play well most of the time, Szczesny seems to falter when playing against the best competition in the world.
