Wilson will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after being diagnosed with a medial ligament injury, manager Mark Hughes said Monday.

Hughes noted that Wilson hasn't been ruled out for the season, though he's unlikely to make much of an impact regardless.

Wilson (ankle) is not in the 18-man squad Sunday against Liverpool.

Marc Muniesa will start alongside Geoff Cameron on Sunday, with Wilson's next opportunity to play coming next Saturday against Spurs.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Wilson (ankle) is questionable to play Saturday against Liverpool, manager Mark Hughes said Friday. "Marc Wilson is suffering a little but, so he will be touch and go," Hughes said. "He has a bit of soreness on the ankle and hasn't been able to train this week."

While it's not an ideal matchup for defensive purposes, Wilson's absence would certainly be a hit to the Potters, who would turn to Marc Muniesa to start alongside Philipp Wollschied, as Ryan Shawcross (back) is also sidelined.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Wilson turned his ankle during Sunday's friendly with Cologne, the same ankle he injured a few weeks ago, but he is still expected to be available for Sunday's Premier League opener against Liverpool, the Stoke Sentinel reports.

Wilson made 25 starts for Stoke last season and is a solid defender, though his fantasy upside is fairly clean sheet dependent.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Wilson was given a straight red card for pulling down Loic Remy in the box during Stoke's loss to Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Wilson doesn't provide a lot of fantasy value outside of clean sheets, although he won't be providing anything in the next three games due to Thursday's booking.
