Kone is hoping to return to full training within a month. He has been out since October after having surgery on his knee to repair cartilage damage.

While it is unlikely Kone will make any impact this season, he is looking to next season to reward manager Roberto Martinez and the Everton fans for their faith and patience with him. Kone followed Martinez to Everton from Wigan and was hopingl to help contribute on the attack. Injuries and the signing of Romelu Lukaku on loan have decreased any fantasy value Kone was hoping to have this season.

Kone is expected to undergo knee surgery and could potentially miss the rest of the 2013-14 Premier League season, reports the Liverpool Echo. Everton manager Roberto Martinez fears the worst after an exam revealed Kone had loose cartilage in his knee that needs repaired. However, he has not been ruled out for the rest of the season yet but an exact return date will not be known until after surgery.

Kone followed Martinez from Wigan to Everton in hopes of improving the Everton attack. However, with the signing of Romelu Lukaku, Kone made only five appearances as a substitute before getting injured against Hull in mid-October.

Everton are the current front runners to land Kone, according to reports from Sky Sports. Wigan is expected to receive roughly £5 million for the transfer. Two other clubs are reportedly in the mix, but it is expected that Kone will rejoin former manager Roberto Martinez.

Kone was Wigan’s leading goal scorer last year, tallying 11 goals in 34 Premier League appearances. If he does join Everton, he will likely cut into the production of current Everton striker Victor Anichebe.
