Ward-Prowse was shown a straight red card in the 54th minute of Southampton's 2-1 loss to Sunderland on Saturday.

The sending off came on a foul from behind in the box, which resulted in the game-winning penalty by Jordi Gomez. It was an unfortunately harsh decision for Ward-Prowse and Southampton, but the 20-year-old will miss next week's match versus Leicester City nonetheless.

Ward-Prowse led Southampton with three shot attempts (two on goal) in Sunday's opening match at Liverpool.

Ward-Prowse started on Southampton's right wing and had an eye for goal while playing the entire match. Following just 16 starts last season, the 19-year-old figures to assume a much larger role for a retooled Saints' squad this time around. Nonetheless, Ward-Prowse is yet to score a Premier League goal, so his fantasy stock remains rooted in potential for the time being.
