Monreal made his third straight start at left-back as he secured a third consecutive clean sheet in Sunday's win over Aston Villa.

Monreal has been an underrated member of Arsenal's squad this season, as injuries to teammates have forced him to occasionally play center-back as opposed to his usual left-back position. Overall, the Spaniard has recorded 15 starts and locked-down six clean sheets along the way. The past three of those have come in consecutive matches at Monreal's preferred left-back post, where he has distanced himself from teammate Kieran Gibbs as Arsenal's first-choice defender in recent weeks.

Monreal (knee) will not play Saturday against Newcastle, manager Arsene Wenger confirmed Thursday.

Monreal appeared slated to start, as Laurent Koscielny is unlikely to play due to a calf injury and Calum Chambers is suspended, but the injury will hold him out once again, and he has no specific timetable for return.

Monreal has been ruled out for Saturday's match against Stoke City due to an ankle injury.

Monreal had been getting regular playing time, both as a centreback and out wide, but with Mathieu Debuchy almost back from an ankle injury, Monreal didn't figure to get a lot of playing time in the coming games anyway.

Monreal picked up a knee injury early in Arsenal's 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday and had to be subbed off for Kieran Gibbs.

Monreal had been starting at centreback recently, but moved over the leftback with Laurent Koscielny returning from his Achilles injury. However, the knee injury could very well keep him out for a number of matches, as Arsenal will play Southampton on Wednesday and Stoke next Saturday.

Monreal has been ruled out of Arsenal's Premier League match against Aston Villa on Saturday due to his ongoing back injury.

Monreal was held out of Tuesday's Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, but manager Arsene Wenger said earlier in the week that he thought Monreal would return Saturday. As of Friday, Wenger said he doesn't know when Monreal will return, but indicated he didn't think it would be long-term.

Monreal returned from a foot injury to start and play all 90 minutes of Arsenal's 0-3 loss to Everton on Sunday.

Monreal is a bit fantasy player and he didn't do anything Sunday to change that.

Monreal (foot) is back in training and may be able to play Sunday against Everton, the Arsenal's official website reports.

Despite the near return to fitness, Monreal is a limited contributor and a relatively poor fantasy option.
