Haidara will be out for four months because of a knee injury that requires surgery, according to Lee Ryder of the Newcastle Chronicle.

Paul Dummett has recently taken over the starting leftback spot, though Haidara's absence is certainly a huge blow to Newcastle's depth.

Haidara (groin) was forced off in the U21 match against Aston Villa, after playing just 33 minutes, the Chronicle Live reports.

The 22-year-old went down in a heap pointing to his groin and was then replaced by Liam Gibson. Due to his injury, Kevin Mbabu is now likely to step up to fill the role of back-up left-back with Paul Dummett filling the starting position.

Haidara (knee) could return Sunday against Norwich City, the Shields Gazette reports.

Haidara started the first six matches of the season but suffered the knee injury Sept. 19 against Watford and has not played since. He has reportedly worked on his fitness over the international break and could slot back into the starting XI again.

Haidara picked up a yellow card while recording a clean sheet in Saturday's goalless draw against Manchester United.

After missing the final few months of the 2014-15 season with a knee injury, Haidara has played every minute of the first three games of the season. After not being cautioned in 15 EPL appearances last season, discipline has never been much of a problem, though he does not do much on the scoresheet as an offensive player either, having not scored a competitive goal at the senior level.

Haidara will miss the rest of the season after having knee surgery in Lyon on Thursday, the Newcastle Chronicle reports.

Haidara suffered the injury Feb. 28 against Aston Villa, and he was initially only expected to miss two weeks. However, additional scans showed the full extent of the injury, and the 22-year-old will be unable to contribute again this season.

Haidara picked up an assist and a clean sheet during Newcastle's 3-0 win over Hull City on Saturday.

Haidara was a heavy contributor to the shutout, finishing the match with two tackles, five interceptions and five clearances. It was a solid performance after losing back to back matches to Chelsea and Southampton, and Newcastle will look to keep the defensive streak going next Sunday against Stoke City.

Haidara started Wednesday's Capital One Cup match against Manchester City but was replaced at halftime after suffering what is believed to be a hamstring injury, the Shields Gazette reports.

Haidara made his season debut in Wednesday's match after being an unused substitute in last weekend's match against Sunderland. The severity of the injury wasn't immediately known but it would be very surprising to see him play this Saturday against Chelsea.
