Lallana is expected to miss six weeks after suffering knee ligament damage during pre-season training Friday, espn.co.uk reports.

Lallana's injury is not expected to require surgery, but the news is tough for both Liverpool and fantasy owners. Many picked the 26-year-old midfielder to build upon his breakout 2013-2014 with Southampton, but those expectations will now need to be tempered.

Lallana officially signed with Liverpool on Tuesday after transferring from Southampton, the club's official web site reports.

The move will cost Liverpool 25 million, which increases their summer spending to 40 million after bringing on Lallana's Southampton teammate Rickie Lambert and Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen. Lallana is coming off an excellent season at Southampton and now joins as Liverpool squad that was second in goals last season in the Premier League, although they could be close to selling striker Luis Suarez, which could limit some assist opportunities.

Lallana concluded with nine goals and six assists across 38 appearances for Southampton during the 2013-2014 Premier League season.

Lallana proved to be Southampton's midfield catalyst over the course of his second Premiership campaign. After just three goals and five assists last season, Lallana finished in a three-way tie for fifth-place in goals from a midfielder this time around. His breakout season earned Lallana a place on England's World Cup team and has already drawn transfer interest from some of England's bigger clubs as well.

Lallana may be preparing for a summer move to Liverpool despite rumored interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, reports the Daily Mail.

Manchester United were most recently linked with a bid for the midfielder, but current reports suggest Lallana would prefer a move to Liverpool. Southampton has maintained that their big players would not be leaving.

Lallana scored a very well-taken goal and also picked up an assist in Southampton's win over Newcastle on Saturday.

Lallana struck from distance to record his ninth goal of the season in outstanding fashion. The midfielder also brought his assist tally to six during Saturday's match. Following three goals and five helpers in his debut Premiership campaign last season, Lallana's displays this term have garnered interest from some of England's top clubs and Saturday's performance should encourage further inquiries.

Lallana started Saturday's match against Norwich City, but was replaced after just 56 minutes for Rickie Lambert. The move paid off, as Lambert scored fewer than two minutes later.

Lallana has been in a bit of a funk recently, failing to score a goal since February 1 against Southampton. The cold spell commenced right after he found the back of the net three times in four games. Up next is a trip to White Hart Lane.
