Schurre returned from an illness as a late sub in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

Schurrle continues to move in-and-out of the starting XI for Chelsea, and he could very well be the lone striker in Tuesday's Capital One Cup match against Shrewsbury Town, though Diego Costa (hamstring) is expected to return for Saturday's Premier League match against QPR.

Schurrle (illness) was held out of Saturday's Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Tuesday and he is not expected to play in Tuesday's Champions League match against Maribor, manager Jose Mourinho said Saturday

Schurrle battled the flu during the international break, and while he is not expected to play Tuesday, he may be able to return the following Sunday against Manchester United.

Schurrle (illness) will have a late fitness test ahead of Saturday's match against Crystal Palace, the Daily Mail reports.

Schurrle has battled the flu during the international break and is facing time off if he's unable to get healthy before Saturday's match. If he's ultimately unable to play, Chelsea's next match comes against Manchester United on Oct. 26.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Schurrle came off the bench and opened the scoring in Chelsea's 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

After netting in the Premier League opener against Burnley on Aug. 18, Schurrle now has two goals in four appearances. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, it appears that he has lost his spot in the starting XI to Willian, which obviously limits his fantasy value.

Schurrle was an unused substitute for Chelsea's 6-3 win over Everton on Saturday.

Willian got the start in Schurrle's place, and while the former only played 75 minutes before being subbed off, Schurrle stayed on the bench as Chelsea were well ahead. Despite playing in only two of three games, Schurrle still leads the team with 11 shots this season, although only one has landed on goal.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Schurrle had a game-high six shots during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Leicester on Saturday, although none landed on goal.

Schurrle has started both of Chelsea's Premier League matches this season and seems to be ahead of Willian on the depth chart. He is very active on the attack and could be a solid fantasy producer if he continues to be in the starting XI. With Chelsea collecting six points in their first two matches, it's tough to see why manager Jose Mourinho would make a switch now.

Schurrle scored in the 21st minute of Chelsea's 3-1 win over Burnley on Monday.

Manager Jose Mourinho speculated last weekend that Schurrle would be held out after winning the World Cup with Germany, but there was Schurrle in the starting XI come Monday. He took a beautiful chip from Cesc Fabregas to put Chelsea ahead for good, and while he could get pressure from Willian for playing time, Schurrle has shown an ability to perform in limited time.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Schurrle is in the starting XI for Chelsea's Premier League opener against Burnley on Monday.

Manager Jose Mourinho previously indicated that he was going to hold out his players who made it at least to the quarterfinals of the World Cup, which included Schurrle, Eden Hazard, Thiabut Courtois, and Oscar, but each one of them is starting Monday. Schurrle has the ability to make a difference in fantasy leagues, but he's always been plagued by inconsistent playing time.
