Varela suffered an ankle injury 7 minutes into Saturday's 1-0 loss to Darmstadt and will be out for 3-4 months.

Varela's loss will be a blow to Eintracht Frankfurt's defense, as he likely will not take the pitch until the second half of the Bundesliga season. Jesus Vellejo took his place and could see increased playing time as a result of Varela's injury. Darmstadt face Bayer Leverkusen next Saturday.

A home match against Aston Villa is exactly what Manchester City could use after their recent slide, and the matchup makes Sergio Aguero a top play this weekend.

Varela kept a clean sheet, making two tackles and eight interceptions, and picked up a yellow card in Saturday's 1-0 win against Schalke 04.

Varela and the rest of the Eintracht Frankfurt back four looked strong against Schalke 04, although some disciplinary issues will complicate the lineup for the next two matches. Varela could be a sneaky fantasy option against weaker opponents if he continues to produce these performances. Eintracht Frankfurt face Darmstadt on 10 Sept after the international brea.

Varela tallied two dribbles, one cross, three tackles and a clean sheet in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Watford.

That's Varela's fourth consecutive start across all competitions getting his season tally to a total of eight appearances (seven starts) picking up an assist along the way. He's had a fine stint in the starting XI but with the return of Matteo Darmian and the expected recoveries of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, he'll face an uphill battle for regular playing time which will limit his fantasy upside off the bench.

Varela played the full 90 minutes of the Monday's FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury.

With ever-growing list of injuries across the Red Devils' corps Varela may continue starting at right back. He has two Premier League appearances (one start) for a total of 135 minutes, thus far, this season but if gets the nod on Sunday he'll be facing the title-chasers - Arsenal.

Varela (knock) is doubtful for Saturday's match against Sunderland, manager Louis van Gaal said Friday.

Varela, who suffered the injury during a U-21 match earlier this week, was unlikely to get much playing time anyway, so his absence isn't likely to affect many fantasy decisions.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Varela picked up a knock during United's U-21 match Monday.

Varela was playing with the younger squad to get some minutes under his belt, as he's found it very difficult to get playing time during Premier League action, which obviously limits his fantasy upside.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Varela tallied team-leading eight total tackles, three dribbles, a cross and a yellow card making the full 90 minutes in the Tuesday's Champions League 3-2 loss to Wolfsburg.

The youngster had a decent first ever start for United. He was one of the few brighter spots for the dull Devils. The Uruguayan may have earned another start Saturday versus the Cherries for the injury-plagued United's defense.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Varela took a shot off target and hauled in 43 touches in 45 minutes off the bench in his United and Premier League debut in the 0-0 draw with West Ham.

The youngster had a decent senior birth appearance as a Red Devil. He came on at half-time for the injured Patrick McNair at left back and was pretty active and poised for a match with such a magnitude for himself. With injuries mounting on United's defense the Uruguayan would have an opportunity for more action over the next few weeks.
