Bony did not travel with the squad for its preseason friendlies in Australia because of an illness, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The club doctors apparently were worried that Bony could pass the illness along to other players while on the airplane, which is why he was kept back. Bony's fitness will be of utmost importance to start the season, as Sergio Aguero will miss the opener Aug. 10 against West Brom because of a lack of match fitness following the Copa America.

Bony is not traveling on Manchester City's international preseason tour because of an undisclosed injury picked up while on holiday, manager Manuel Pellegrini said Tuesday. “Bony is in Manchester at the moment – he has some physical problem from his holidays so I think it’s better for him to stay in Manchester and not lose the time coming back," Pellegrini said. “The doctor can say more – I don’t think it’s too serious but he can’t work at the same level as the rest of the squad.”

Any issues like this during the preseason could surely force Bony to fall behind on fitness, which wouldn't allow him to start the season on time. Sergio Aguero is fully expected to be the starting striker this season, and the addition of Raheem Sterling could further push Bony down the depth chart, which would be a big hit to his fantasy value.

Bony started just 18 of his 33 appearances this season, split between Swansea and Manchester City, but managed to score 11 goals and provide 3 assists in total.

Bony thrived early on as the main striker for the Swans, scoring 9 goals in 16 starts, but managed just two goals after his January transfer, although he only started twice for City. Eden Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic are reportedly on the way out this summer, so Bony will have a chance to earn a starting role alongside Sergio Aguero, although City are likely to bring in at least one attacker this summer.

Bony returned from an ankle injury to come on as a late sub Saturday against Aston Villa, entering in the 82nd minute for Sergio Aguero. He failed to take a shot and finished with just seven touches.

Bony missed three games due to the ailment, and while it's notable that he got into the game ahead of Edin Dzeko, it was too little playing time to make much of a fantasy impact. With some more training under his belt this week, he may be able to get back in the starting XI next Sunday against Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Bony has recovered from his ankle injury, and he will be available for Saturday's match against Aston Villa, manager Manuel Pellegrini said Friday.

Bony has missed the last three games due to the injury, and it is unclear if he'll be given a start, especially with Edin Dzeko also fit.

Bony (ankle) returned to training Thursday and could feature Saturday against Aston Villa, ESPN FC reports.

Bony has missed the last three matches due to the ailment, but it would be an excellent match to return for, as Villa have been awful defensively under new manager Tim Sherwood.

Bony (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's match against West Ham.

Bony also missed last weekend's Manchester derby, and while the issue was not considered serious at first, it's become obvious that the injury was worse than initially believed. Sergio Aguero will continue to lead the line, with Edin Dzeko either starting next to him or available off the bench.

Bony (ankle/knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's Manchester derby.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini admitted Friday that Bony is dealing with both an ankle and knee injury. Sergio Aguero is expected to start up front, with Edin Dzeko a possibility to join him, as Stevan Jovetic is unlikely to play because of a muscle injury.
