Costa scored a goal on two shot attempts during Friday's 2-1 loss to Liverpool.

Costa couldn't find as much room to operate as he had in previous matches, but he still found an inch of space and deftly tucked home a chipped pass from Nemanja Matic in the 61st minute. Costa has been in stellar form to start the season, as he now has a league-leading five goals and an assist to his name through five matches. He could rest during Tuesday's League Cup match versus Leicester City, as a league match versus Arsenal set to follow on Saturday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Costa scored two goals on five shots (three on target) and was issued a yellow card in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

Calling Costa an enigma at this point would be false copy, as his predictable unpredictability makes him both maddening to watch for Chelsea fans and great theatre for neutrals. His 18th minute goal was a well-taken strike while his 41st minute yellow card showed how rash he could be. Just prior to Swansea's goal-scoring flurry, he drew a yellow card on Jordi Amat and was baiting player after player into frustration fouls. In the 81st minute, Costa brightened up the traveling support with a tremendous overhead kick off the face of Ryan Naughton and into the back of the net. Costa's disciplinary record of three yellow cards in four matches is almost as impressive as his goal-scoring record of four in four. With no European campaign to wear him down, Costa could be primed for a big season if he can stay fit—and out of the referee's book.

Costa had one assist, five shots, including two on goal and two key passes in Saturday’s victory against Burnley.

Costa was held scoreless for the first time this season and didn’t have any good chances. His best chance came off a rebound by Burnley’s keeper, Tom Heaton, but was beaten to the ball by Burnley’s Ben Mee. Costa’s next match is September 11th against Swansea City.

Costa had one goal and picked up a yellow card in Saturday's 2-1 win over Watford.

Costa has been consistent this season, picking up a yellow card, getting lucky not to be sent off with a questionable no call from the official and then the late game winner in both matches. This match Costa's close call came on a dive just outside the box which should have resulted in his second yellow. Fortunately for Chelsea he stayed in the match and capitalized on a beautiful through ball from Cesc Fabregas late in the match to give The Blues their second straight thrilling victory. Costa's next league match is Saturday against Burnley.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Costa scored a goal on three shots (two on target) and picked up a yellow card in Monday's 2-1 victory over West Ham.

This match featured what Chelsea fans love about Costa, a goal-hungry, tenacious centre forward with a knack for scoring timely goals, and the Costa that looks a razor's edge from being sent-off at any moment. Costa's goal was well-taken from the edge of the box, linking up well with summer signing Michy Batshuayi to grab all three points. However, he picked up a caution in the 19th minute for dissent and didn't seem to change his rather reckless style of play for the following 70 minutes. He had a pair of challenges that other refs may have issued cards for including a raised-studs challenge on keeper Adrian in the 68th minute. The specter of disciplinary problems will haunt the Spanish striker wherever he goes, but he showed why he's worth the risk.

Costa (back) is starting on Monday against West Ham.

Costa's back injury was never considered serious, and he'll get the opening start for the Blues despite continued transfer rumors about going back to Spain. Michy Batshuayi is available off the bench.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Chelsea manager Diego Conte said that Costa is not leaving the club, and that he is set to lead the team's attack once he returns from a back injury on Monday, reports the Daily Mail.

Chelsea faces West Ham in the season-opening match, but there had been speculation about Costa's future in the league. Conte said that he is happy the striker decided to stay, and that he admires his spirit and wants his passion in the side.

Costa will not play Saturday against Real Madrid because of a back injury, Sky Sports reports.

Costa was unable to play against Liverpool earlier this week due to the injury, and it is unclear if he will be fit enough to take part in Chelsea's Premier League opener, which comes 15 Aug. against West Ham.
