Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said after Tuesday's Champions League win over Maribor that he does not expect Costa (hamstring) to play Sunday against Manchester United.

Loic Remy, who has started the last two games in place of Costa, suffered a muscle injury during Tuesday's match after scoring a goal, leaving Didier Drogba as the likely starter against United on Sunday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said after Saturday's match against Crystal Palace that Costa will not play in Tuesday's Champions League match against Maribor due to his hamstring injury.

Costa was been dealing with a hamstring issue all season, but Saturday's match was the first one that he's missed. He co-leads the Premier League in goals and while he will be missed Tuesday, Chelsea should certainly be able to grab all three points at home. Costa's injury is severe enough to keep him out of two matches following his participation in two games for Spain during the international break, and it's unclear if he will be ready to face Manchester United on Oct. 26. Loic Remy is expected to start in his place, as he did against Crystal Palace.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said Friday that Costa is an injury doubt for Saturday's match against Crystal Palace.

Costa has been dealing with a hamstring issue for much of the season, but Mourinho continues to play him through it and he leads the Premier League in goals. He'll likely face a late fitness test to determine whether he can start, with Loic Remy the likely replacement if Costa is unable to go.

Chelsea defender John Terry claimed that Costa is training every day despite manager Jose Mourinho arguing that the forward is not fit enough to be part of Spain's European qualifier squad to face Slovakia and Luxembourg, according to the Daily Mail.

Terry insisted that Costa has been training fully and hasn't complained about any issue that would force him out of Spain's team. Costa scored against Arsenal on Sunday, and is currently with Spain's squad in preparation for the upcoming matches.

Costa scored in the 78th minute of Chelsea's 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, his ninth goal in seven matches this season.

Costa's remarkable start to the season continues, as he now holds a four-goal lead for the league-lead over Leonardo Ulloa, Sergio Aguero and Saido Berahino. Manager Jose Mourinho is desperate for Costa to not play for Spain over the international break, but it's unlikely his sits to rest the hamstring that has kept him from training much in the past couple of weeks.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said Friday that Costa will play against Arsenal on Sunday despite starting Tuesday against Sporting CP in the Champions League and the previous Saturday against Aston Villa.

Costa has been called up to the Spanish national team for play during the international break, but Mourinho made it clear he will not save his star striker so he can perform for Spain and not Chelsea. Mourinho has made it very clear that he would prefer Costa not play during this international break, but admitted it's out of his hands. Regardless of that, he'll likely start Sunday's match and he remains an elite goal-scoring option.

Costa will start Chelsea's Champions League match at Sporting CP on Tuesday, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed Monday. "Diego starts," he said. "Hopefully he plays again on Sunday, against Arsenal, but at the moment I don't think about Arsenal, I think about Sporting and Diego starts tomorrow."

Mourinho previously stated that Costa is essentially not training due to an ongoing muscle injury and that he would not play him three times in seven days. The Arsenal match would be his third in eight days after Chelsea beat Aston Villa last Saturday, so it wouldn't be surprising if Costa was taken off rather early in Tuesday's tie if Chelsea go up.
