Gotze signed a four-year contract with Borussia Dortmund on Thursday after transferring from Bayern Munich.

Gotze was deemed surplus to requirements under new Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti, and he now heads back to Dortmund, who he famously left for Bayern in a move that left many in yellow with a less-than-pleased opinion of him. Nevertheless, he's still only 24 with plenty of upside, particularly playing opposite Marco Reus as Dortmund try to fill the voids left by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ilkay Gundogan.

Euro 2016: Tuesday Cheat Sheet

Groups C and D finish up Tuesday, with Germany and Spain well positioned to take the top spots, but some potential squad rotation could open up fantasy rosters.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Gotze made four appearances (three starts) for Germany during Euro 2016, tallying eight shots, with four on target, three dribbles and four fouls. He improves his international record to 56 caps and 17 goals. Germany were knocked out in the semifinals after a 2-0 defeat by France.

Gotze had a troubled campaign battling a long-term thigh injury and recovering from it at the end of last season. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, though, found some fantasy value despite his limited playing time finishing the season with three goals and four assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances (11 starts) for Bayern Munich.

Gotze had three shots, with two on target, and made two successful tackles in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland.

Gotze started his third match at Euro 2016 but was subbed off in favor of Andre Schurrle for the second straight game. If Gotze is not in the lineup in the Round of 16, expect to see Schurrle or Julian Draxler in his place.

Gotze (ribs) is starting on Sunday against Ukraine.

Gotze returned to full training earlier this week, and he'll get the start in Germany's opening match of the European Championship, starting as a false nine with Mesut Ozil behind him in the center.

Gotze (ribs) began practicing on Wednesday, the club reports.

Gotze sustained rib fractures in the last match of the season against Hannover 96, and was unable to compete in the DFB Pokal final due to the injury. They expect Gotze to be ready to go for Euro 2016, and him practicing is a good sign that his recovery is progressing as planned.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Gotze will not participate in the DFB Pokal final due to fractured ribs he sustained in the last match of the season against Hannover 96, the club reports.

The club expects Gotze to be fit for Euro 2016, although he will not be able to fight for the double for his side Saturday. Although manager Pep Guardiola has plenty of squad depth at his disposal, Gotze's absence is somewhat ill-timed, as he bagged a brace in last weekend's match and would have been likely to build on that momentum.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Gotze put all four of his shots on target and scored twice in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Hannover.

Gotze was the star of the show Saturday, putting two of his four shots into the back of the net and adding the exclamation point to Bayern Munich’s record-setting season. The World Cup winner had a good start to the season and had three goals and three assists in his first ten matches across all competitions. However, he spent several months on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury and his season never really recovered until the last three matches, in which he scored two goals and provided one assist while playing all but 28 minutes. Gotze has one year left on his contract and may be attracting the attention of other clubs during the summer transfer window. First, he will try to lock up a another trophy this season by winning the DFB Pokal final next Saturday against his former club Borussia Dortmund.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Gotze provided an assist in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Hertha Berlin.

Gotze has been a mainstay in the squad’s Bundesliga campaign since returning from injury and produced his first assist since October by providing the key pass that led to Arturo Vidal’s goal. Manager Pep Guardiola has plenty of depth at his disposal and has been rotating the squad materially in recent weeks. Gotze barely featured in the Champions League quarterfinal matches, so fantasy owners should monitor the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid to determine whether Gotze will start the day on the pitch or on the bench.
