Cabella (knee) will not play Saturday against Aston Villa.

Cabella had been in good form before going down with the injury, and the Newcastle attack has stalled somewhat of late. Given the quick turnaround, he appears unlikely to play Wednesday against Manchester United.

Cabella will not play Saturday against Manchester City after straining a medial ligament in his knee during training Monday, the Newcastle Chronicle reports. Manager John Carver said "it's not a serious issue but it will almost certainly keep him out at the weekend."

While Carver didn't 100 percent rule Cabella out, it certainly doesn't sound like he's even that close to playing. If he does sit, his next opportunity to play will come Feb. 28 against Aston Villa.

Cabella suffered a knee injury during training and is now facing a late-fitness test ahead of Saturday's match against Manchester City, the Hartlepool Mail reports.

Those that have a vested interest in Cabella will want to make alternative arrangements in the event that the 24-year-old is deemed unfit to take the pitch Saturday. If he ultimately stays off the pitch, his next opportunity to play will be against Aston Villa on Feb. 28.

Cabella scored his first goal of the season during Newcastle's 3-0 win over Hull City on Saturday.

Cabella had taken seven shots in his last two matches, but his only shot Saturday resulted in the goal. He finally seems to have locked into a spot in the starting XI, though a change in manager could adjust his playing time yet again.

Cabella took four shots (none on goal) and made a game-high six key passes during Newcastle's 2-1 loss to Southampton on Saturday.

Cabella has been active lately, taking seven shots in the last two games, but only one has been on goal. Overall it's been a disappointing season for Cabella in most fantasy formats, as he has no goals and just one assist, which came back on Oct. 26 against Spurs.

Cabella could regain his spot in the starting XI for Saturday's match against Chelsea, the Chronicle reports.

Cabella has come off the bench in back-to-back games, but he was incredibly active after coming on for the second half during Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Burnley, impressing manager Alan Pardew enough to possibly get him back to his starting job. Unfortunately, it comes against arguably the best defensive side in the Premier League.

Cabella came in for Yoan Gouffran in the 91st minute of Newcastle's 1-0 victory over Leicester on Saturday.

Cabella didn't see the pitch until extra time and looks to be further from returning to his starting role. Until the French import can see more consistent playing time, he shouldn't be considered for fantasy squads.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cabella is likely to be in manager Alan Pardew's starting XI for Newcastle's upcoming clash with Leicester.

With several injuries in the Toon midfield, Cabella will have no problem making the starting XI against the Foxes. However, the French international will need to make more of an impact on the attack if he is to solidify his spot in the squad. Fantasy owners will want to keep a close eye on Cabella's performance in this match as it could go along way secure more steady playing time on Tyneside.
