Cesar made one save while recording a clean sheet in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over FC Astana.

With Benfica bossing the Kazakh side around in the midfield, Cesar saw only one shot on net, which he dealt with comfortably. However, he was lucky to see Aleksei Schetkin's second-half shot ricochet off the post. They will face a stiffer test when they travel to Madrid to take on Atletico in their next fixture in the group stage.

Cesar conceded three goals, including a fumble for the first, as Benfica lost 3-1 Wednesday to Bayer Leverkusen in Champions League Group C.

Brazil's World Cup goalkeeper had a torrid game. This was his first Champions League game since March 2012 and it showed, often looking nervous and indecisive. Although making a good save after five minutes, Cesar didn't instill confidence in his defense and failed to hold onto Heung-Min Son's strike which led to Stefan Kiessling's goal. Cesar has now made two appearances for Benfica since his summer move and has failed to keep a clean sheet.

Cesar has officially joined Benfica after leaving QPR by mutual consent, BBC Sport reports.

Cesar joined up with QPR in 2012, but only made 24 appearances before getting loaned out to Toronto FC last season. The 34-year old, who had been overtaken by Robert Green as first-choice at Loftus Road, will start a new challenge at Benfica, where he will try to fill the void left by Jan Oblak.

Cesar is in discussions with Queens Park Rangers to settle a severance payment before he finalizes a free transfer to Benfica, according to the Daily Mail.

QPR is looking to free up some funds for wages, and Cesar's salary is one the club would like to be free of. Cesar started all of Brazil's World Cup matches this summer and was recently with Toronto FC on loan.

Cesar was recalled from his loan spell at Toronto FC by Queens Park Rangers on Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Cesar has been with Toronto since February and had a decent run as the starting keeper for Brazil at the World Cup until the semifinals. It's unclear if he will start at QPR this season, after he fell out of favor last year while the club was in the Championship.

Cesar made three saves but allowed seven goals during Brazil's loss to Germany in the World Cup semifinal Tuesday.

After giving up a goal in the 11th minute, the Brazilian defense appeared to just give up and by halftime they trailed 5-0. There wasn't much Cesar could do, as he made a few decent saves, but after the blitz of goals in the first half, it was all but over by halftime.

Cesar made two saves during Brazil's scoreless draw with Mexico at the World Cup on Tuesday.

Cesar wasn't tested much, which cannot also be said for Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa, who made six saves in a highlight performance for the Mexicans. Up next is a Cameroon side that likely won't be in any position for the knockout stage, but will surely be looking to make a statement in their final World Cup game.

Cesar made three saves but was beaten by an 11th-minute own goal by Marcelo in Brazil's 3-1 win over Croatia in the opening match of the World Cup on Thursday.

Cesar was solid throughout the match, making two goal-saving denials. While there are some high-scoring possibilities in the group stage from Mexico and Cameroon, the Brazil defense is very solid and Cesar could end up with a few clean sheets.
