Bertrand has withdrawn from England squad after sustaining an injury during England win over Malta on Saturday, according to Sky Sports.

Bertrand tallied an assist and kept a clean sheet in Sunday's 3-0 victory over West Ham.

The pacey left back struggled with fitness at the beginning of the season, missing the first three matches and looking a bit uncomfortable in his return against Arsenal. However, he's helped keep clean sheets in the last two Premier League matches and looked spry and confident all match on Sunday. After a goal and four assists last season, Bertrand will be a big part of the Saints' success, both domestically and in Europe.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bertrand kept a clean sheet in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Swansea City.

Still finding his fitness, Bertrand was left out of the starting XI for their mid-week Europa League match against Sparta Prague, but returned for his second match of the season for the Saints' first clean sheet. The highly-rated fullback helps provide stability to the Saints' at-times fragile back-four and should replace Matt Targett for a permanent place in the starting XI. Bertrand could get the Saints' mid-week EFL Cup match against Crystal Palace off before returning to the starting XI against West Ham.

Bertrand (knee) is on the bench for Saturday's match against Sunderland.

Bertrand has not played yet this season because of his injury, but he returned to full training this week and will ease his way back in. Matt Targett will start again for the Saints, but Bertrand will likely reclaim his starting job after the international break.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bertrand returned to training and was getting a final assessment on Friday before manager Claude Puel could decide if he was ready to play.

After a difficult opening two matches, the experienced Bertrand would be a nice boost for Southampton's back line. If Bertrand is well enough to get a start, a home match against Sunderland isn't a bad fixture.
