Griezmann will be suspended for Sunday's season opener against Alaves, Marca reports.

Griezmann was shown his fifth caution of the season in the final La Liga match of 2015/16, meaning he will be forced to sit out Sunday as the next available league match. The striker was expected to be rested for the match anyway, as he received an extended break following a run to the Euro 2016 final with France, so he should be available to make his debut next Saturday versus Leganes.

Griezmann has signed one-year extension with Atletico Madrid. "I'm very satisfied, very happy to keep belonging to this family and this project. I want to improve every year, and the club, the coaches, and my teammates, can help me reach this goal", revealed the delighted player.

Griezmann makes a clear statement about his plans for the future on the verge of another transfer rumors wave this summer. Now probably he'll be able to enjoy his Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards of Euro 2016 peacefully.

Griezmann put in five crosses and scored a pair of goals on seven shots in Thursday's 2-0 triumph over Germany.

Griezmann stole the show Thursday, as he was a constant threat in and around the penalty area and was rewarded with a penalty attempt which he buried on the stroke of half-time. He was unlucky to score on a couple of close-range chances, but he pounced on a rebound off the finger tips of Manuel Neuer in the 72nd minute and tucked it between the latter's legs to double the lead. Griezmann now has six goals and a pair of assists in five appearances since being benched ahead of the second match of the tournament, and he will head into Sunday's final against Portugal with the Golden Boot award all but wrapped up.

Griezmann scored a goal on two shots and added a pair of assists in Sunday's 5-2 victory over Iceland.

Griezmann, who whipped in a corner kick that Paul Pogba headed home for the hosts' second goal and teed up Dimitri Payet for the third, capped off a first-half outburst by busting loose to chip the oncoming 'keeper on the stroke of half-time. He was benched after a lackluster performance in the opening match, but the move seems to have inspired Griezmann, who now has three goals and two assists in four matches since. He will need to be at his best Thursday as France take on Germany in the semi-finals.

Griezmann scored twice on eight shots (five on target) and added three crosses in Sunday's 2-1 Euro 2016 victory over Ireland that sent France to the quarterfinals.

Griezmann had a magnificent game and with a pair of clinical finishes sent his country through to the quarterfinals. First, he met an amazing Bacary Sagna cross with a powerful and perfectly aimed header for the equalizer and soon after he finished the Irish with a lethal run ending with a deadly finish for the winner. The striker is now tied atop with three scores and is peaking at the perfect moment for France.

Griezmann came on in the 67th minute to score the winning goal of Wednesday's triumph over Albania.

The striker found himself on the bench after a lackluster showing in the opening game, but he confidently tucked home a header in the 90th minute to earn his side the three points. Griezmann undoubtedly made an impact in Wednesday's match, but his history of success as a substitute in international play could see him begin Sunday's match versus Romania on the sidelines as well.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Griezmann faces the prospect of starting on the bench against Albania on Wednesday, Jerome Pugmire of AP reports.

Manager Didier Deschamps was so unimpressed by Griezmann's performance in their game against Romania that he could decide to go with Kingsley Coman in the starting XI on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Griezmann was fantastic for his club this past season as he tallied 22 goals and five assists in 38 appearances, but was unable to transfer that momentum onto the pitch for the host nation. It remains unclear if the forward's benching is a done deal or rather a clever ploy by Deschamps to motivate his player.
