Kirchhoff left Saturday's match against Manchester United in the 14th minute after suffering an apparent hamstring injury.

Jack Rodwell came on to replace Kirchhoff, who started the match playing in a holding midfield role, one that doesn't lend itself to many fantasy points in most formats.

Kirchhoff is named in the starting XI grabbing his Stadium of Light debut versus Man City on Tuesday.

After a troubling debut off the bench and a slight knock after that, the defender is ready to take on his first full game. It will be a tough fantasy feature versus the most prolific offense in the league.

Kirchhoff will not play Saturday against Bournemouth after picking up a slight knock in training, manager Sam Allardyce said before the match.

Kirchhoff has yet to make his Premier League debut after transferring from Bayern Munich, and any injury is certainly a cause for concern given his long injury history.

Kirchhoff tallied four clearances, three tackles and two interceptions in 32 minutes off the bench in the 4-1 loss to Tottenham on Saturday.

Significantly less than perfect debut for Kirchhoff. Besides the disaster of a loss his team suffered, he was late with a challenge on Danny Rose and brought him down in the penalty area leaving no option to the referee but to point the spot for a penalty kick that Harry Kane converted into the fourth goal of the night for the Spurs. The defender may have a future with the Black Cats but he'll need some time to shake off the rust and acclimate to life in Premier League.

Kirchhoff (fitness) is unlikely to play Wednesday against Swansea City as he builds back up his fitness.

Kirchhoff spent the first part of the season at Bayern Munich, but featured only twice—a full match for their second-team and one minute of a DFB-Pokal match—the German U21 international should find regular playing time with Sunderland, who have been decimated by injury.

Kirchhoff signed an 18-month contract with Sunderland on Thursday after transferring from Bayern Munich.

Kirchhoff wasn't getting regular playing time for the German giants, and he could very well slot right into the Black Cats' starting XI given their defensive struggles this season, as they've allowed a league-high 39 goals this season, including a league-high 13 in their last six.

Kirchhoff turned the ball into his own net in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to Chelsea in the Champions League.

Kirchhoff managed to clear two of his teammates with a header that found its way into the back of the Schalke net in the 45th minute. The defender didn't make it out for the second half after he was replaced by Christian Clemens.

Kirchhoff will spend the next 18 months as a member of Schalke, reports.

Parting with the predominant squad in the Bundesliga must be such sweet sorrow for Kirchhoff. Regardless of the defenseman's feelings on the matter, only grand things can come from this loan deal in the realm of fantasy soccer. As a member of Schalke, Kirchhoff will have much more meaningful time spent on the pitch. His fantasy value is likely to ascend with this move.
