Dier (hamstring) faces a late fitness test ahead of Saturday's match against Middlesbrough, manager Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday.

Dier suffered the injury during last weekend's win over Sunderland, and while it was initially described as a cramp, it turned out to be more serious than that. However, he still has a chance to make Saturday's squad, though it's unclear if he'll be in his regular defensive midfield role or play along the defensive back line.

Dier and Spurs held Sunderland scoreless in Sunday's 1-0 win, but he was subbed out late due to injury. Dier finished with two shots and two aerials won in a defensive role.

Dier hasn't scored or assisted this season, but the injury is still something worth monitoring. Most of his early value has come via clean sheets.

Dier agreed to a new five-year contract with Tottenham this week, reports the Daily Mail.

The midfielder said that he is inspired by the future he sees developing at the club under manager Mauricio Pochettino, and that was a driver in his desire to remain with the club for the future.

Dier attempted five shots, two off target, three blocked, in Monday’s 0-0 draw with Slovakia.

Dier has played all 270 minutes in the Euro 2016 group stage, adding a goal in England’s first match. He has played in a holding midfield role throughout the tournament and should have another opportunity to start in England’s Round of 16 match.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Dier scored a goal off a set piece in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Russia in the Euros.

Dier isn't a set piece taker for Spurs in the Premier League—that duty falls to Christian Eriksen—but the English holding midfielder showed supreme skill over the ball when in the 72nd minute, he scored the match's first goal. While his teammate Deli Alli or Wayne Rooney are likely to take the majority of free kicks for the Three Lions, Dier showed more than enough class over the ball to continue as the set piece taker. While he was assured in his holding midfield role, the former centre half was caught out during the final break that led to Russia's only goal and will need to make sure he provides ample cover for England's back-four.

Dier picked up an assist on four crosses and took one shot off target in Sunday's 5-1 season finale loss to Newcastle.

With the title out of their reach the Spurs have crashed and burned with a bang. The whole team was totally unrecognizable playing with no desire and creativity. Dier managed to, at least, salvage his fantasy outing grabbing the assist on Erik Lamela's consolation goal. The holding midfielder turns in three goals, two assists and 10 yellow cards in 37 Premier League starts this season.

Dier (concussion) is starting Monday against Chelsea.

Dier passed his late fitness test and will slot right into his regular spot as a defensive midfielder, a position that doesn't come with significant fantasy upside in most formats.
