Cahill scored a goal in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to West Ham.

The goal was Cahill's first of the season in 13 matches across all competitions. Last season, he had three goals and two assists in 48 matches across all comps. The center back isn't much of a goal scorer, but is the steadiest presence in the middle of crumbling Chelsea back line.

Cahill is available off the bench Sunday against West Brom.

After two poor defensive performances, Cahill will move to the bench in favor of Kurt Zouma, who will start alongside John Terry.

Cahill took a blow to the face from keeper Asmir Begovic in the first half, but played the full 90 minutes of Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Cahill, who broke his nose in the preseason, took a shot from Begovic as the first half wound to a close and sustained heavy bleeding from his nose as a result. Cahill would go on to finish the game after receiving treatment of Chelsea's calamitous defensive performance in which only Begovic's skill prevented more than the trio of goals from being allowed. With skipper John Terry subbed off at halftime, Cahill hardly filled the shoes left by the English captain in the second half, conceding twice with Kurt Zouma attempting to help control the buzzing City front line.

Cahill started and played all 90 minutes of Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday after suffering a broken nose last week in an International Champions Cup match against Barcelona.

Cahill did not wear a mask during the game, but he was hit on the nose and started bleeding again. Given that he played through it Sunday, he is expected to start the Premier League opener next weekend against Swansea City.

Cahill (nose) will be available for the Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed Friday.

Cahill suffered a broken nose Tuesday against Barcelona in the International Champions Cup, and while he will likely have to play with a mask, he's been cleared to participate in the match. Given the lower importance of the match, it wouldn't be overly surprising if Kurt Zouma got the start alongside John Terry, giving Cahill more time to recover in preparation of the Premier League opener Aug. 8 against Swansea City.

Cahill suffered a nose injury during Tuesday's International Champions Cup match against Barcelona, and there is a concern it is broken, Sky Sports reports.

Cahill was hit by the goalkeeper as he connected on a headed goal, and he immediately went down to the ground clutching his face. He was removed from the game after being examined on the field, and if he requires surgery to correct the issue, he'll likely have to play with a mask and could certainly miss the Community Shield on Sunday against Arsenal.

Cahill's flick pass was headed in by Branislav Ivanovic during Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Cahill took a pass from John Terry to set up the goal, making it a three-defender goal-setup for the Blues. Cahill had been losing playing time to Kurt Zouma of late, but after Tuesday's performance, he could be back in the starting XI for Saturday's match against Burnley.

Cahill was rested in favor of Kurt Zouma during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday.

Assistant first team coach Steve Holland reiterated after the game that Cahill was simply being rested after appearing in each match over the holiday period, and he will likely be back in the starting XI next Saturday against Swansea City.
