Cahill started and played all 90 minutes of Chelsea's 2-1 loss at Newcastle on Saturday after leaving Wednesday's match against Tottenham at halftime due to a head injury.

Manager Jose Mourinho stated Friday that Cahill was fit after not suffering a concussion, but his presence wasn't enough to help Chelsea avoid its first loss of the season.

Manager Jose Mourinho confirmed Friday that Cahill is fit for Saturday's match against Newcastle after suffering a head injury Wednesday against Tottenham.

Cahill had to come off at halftime after a collision with Jan Vertonghen and was replaced by Kurt Zouma, who would likely get the start if Mourinho decides to rest his starting centreback.

Manager Jose Mourinho confirmed after Wednesday's game against Tottenham that despite coming off at halftime with a head injury, Cahill did not suffer a concussion.

Mourinho noted that Cahill was "a little bit afraid of heading the ball," which is obviously an important aspect of a centreback's game, so he removed him. Kurt Zouma replaced Cahill against Spurs and could be a candidate to do the same if Cahill has to miss Saturday's match against Newcastle.

Cahill did not attempt a shot, but he completed 98 percent of his 50 passes and drew three fouls during Chelsea's 2-0 win over West Brom on Saturday, his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Cahill doesn't get involved in the attack much at all, which makes his fantasy value very dependent on clean sheets, something that Chelsea have struggled to do consistently this season.

Cahill picked up his first goal of the season during Chelsea's 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

There was some confusion over the score, as most players on the field kept playing after the ball hit Cahill and went in, but the goal-detection system showed the ball crossed the line after touching the defender, giving him his first goal of the season. He was actually also responsible for Liverpool's goal, as Emre Can fired a shot from distance that hit Cahill's shoulder and went in after being redirected, though Can was given credit for the goal, saving Cahill from an own goal. It was a solidly productive day for Cahill, who has struggled putting up many defensive stats lately, last posting a clean sheet Oct. 5 against Arsenal.

Cahill had two clearances and blocked a shot during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, his third consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

Cahill continues to be a steady starter in the middle of the Chelsea defense alongside John Terry, and now that they are starting to clamp it down after a rather leaky first couple of games to the season, Cahill should be able to garner more clean sheets, which is the source of much of his fantasy value in most formats.

Cahill registered his second clean sheet of the Premier League season during Saturday's 3-0 win over Aston Villa, though he also picked up a yellow card.

Chelsea's defense has been a bit suspect this season, with only two shutouts through six matches. It only gets tougher for Cahill, as Chelsea travel to Portugal for Tuesday's Champions League match against Sporting CP before hosting Arsenal next Saturday in Premier League play.

Cahill failed to register a shot during Chelsea's 4-2 win over Swansea City on Saturday.

After blanking Leicester City 2-0 back on Aug. 23, Chelsea have given up five goals in the last two games. Things aren't particularly looking better for Cahill, as Chelsea travel to face Manchester City on Sunday.
