Cattermole is out indefinitely after having an injection in his hip to address a long-term back injury, the Sunderland Echo reports.

Cattermole's absence is another major hit to Sunderland's depth, though his fantasy upside isn't overly high when fit, so not many fantasy decisions are likely to be affected with his continued absence.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole will be unavailable for Saturday's match with West Bromwich Albion.

Cattermole's return from double hernia surgery has been going well, but will remain on the sidelines because of neuro pain from his spine. Jan Kirchoff is expected to start at centre midfield during Saturday's match.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole is expected to return for Sunday's match versus Spurs, the Sunderland Echo reports.

Cattermole has missed most of the start of the season after undergoing surgery to correct a double-hernia, but he has returned to training and could beat his initial recovery timetable. He could begin Sunday's match on the bench, but his invaluable experience in the center of midfield could earn him a starting berth if he is physically prepared to do so.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole is inching closer to fitness from hernia surgery, but is still not ready even after returning to training this past week.

Cattermole may get minutes in the Sunderland midfield, but his fantasy value is minimal. While getting decent time his last three seasons in the league, he has just two goals and zero assists.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole is expected to undergo hernia surgery, which will keep him out for four-to-six weeks.

Cattermole's absence means that Adnan Januzaj, Wahbi Kazri and Paddy McNair could all receive playing time in Sunday's match with Middlesbrough.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole has been ruled out for Saturday's match against Manchester City.

A tough blow to the Black Cats in a very tough opening fixture, especially given that Cattermole's absence will be joined by those of Seb Larsson, Billy Jones and Jan Kirchhoff.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole has been ruled out for Saturday's match against Southampton because of a concussion, according to Chris Young of the Sunderland Echo.

Cattermole is a steady force in the Sunderland midfield, though his fantasy upside is fairly limited in most formats because he doesn't get involved in the attack enough.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole collected three tackles, three fouls and a yellow card in 51 minutes of action against Tottenham on Saturday.

A bad day at the office for the defensive midfielder who's been pretty invisible the last few games. He was in excellent position, at the goal line, to stop Christian Eriksen's shot for the first goal but a terrible attempt of a clearance saw the ball roll on his chest and nest in the net to give the Spurs an equalizer just seconds after they took the lead in the first half. Early in second half he was booked off and was replaced quickly after that. Cattermole doesn't have any goals or assists and is not a fantasy factor in most formats.
