Cattermole has been ruled out for Saturday's match against Southampton because of a concussion, according to Chris Young of the Sunderland Echo.

Cattermole is a steady force in the Sunderland midfield, though his fantasy upside is fairly limited in most formats because he doesn't get involved in the attack enough.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole collected three tackles, three fouls and a yellow card in 51 minutes of action against Tottenham on Saturday.

A bad day at the office for the defensive midfielder who's been pretty invisible the last few games. He was in excellent position, at the goal line, to stop Christian Eriksen's shot for the first goal but a terrible attempt of a clearance saw the ball roll on his chest and nest in the net to give the Spurs an equalizer just seconds after they took the lead in the first half. Early in second half he was booked off and was replaced quickly after that. Cattermole doesn't have any goals or assists and is not a fantasy factor in most formats.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole (back) is available off the bench Saturday against Manchester City.

Cattermole doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside even when he starts, and his spot on the bench only lessens it.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole is considered doubtful to play in the Boxing Day match versus Manchester City because of a back injury.

The 28-year-old has been considered out indefinitely ever since experiencing back discomfort during the win over Stoke City on Nov. 28, and it appears he will not be risked during the holiday period. Cattermole could return at some point in January, but there is no timetable for his return as things currently stand.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole (back) will miss Saturday's match with Watford and will take as long as he needs to return to avoid this from becoming a recurring issue.

The longest tenured Black Cat, having logged 162 caps in a Sunderland kit, has dealt with a series of injuries this season and manager Sam Allardyce doesn't want to have this become a long-term issue that requires surgery.

Cattermole (groin) is starting Monday against Crystal Palace.

Cattermole missed Sunderland's previous match due to the ailment, but manager Sam Allardyce said Friday that Cattermole was ready to return after training fully last week. His fantasy upside is a bit limited given his role, so even a return to fitness isn't likely to lead him to a plethora of fantasy points.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole (groin) trained Friday and could play Monday against Crystal Palace, according to manager Sam Allardyce.

Cattermole was ruled out of the last match for Sunderland, however, he's returned to training and should be available for their upcoming matches. He's started nine fixtures this season, so expect him to be back in the lineup once healthy.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Cattermole (groin) has been ruled out for Saturday's fixture against Southampton.

Cattermole picked up the injury in the first half of the team's last match against Everton and was one of many things that went wrong for the Black Cats in their trip to Liverpool. In 10 matches this season, Cattermole has no goals or assists to go along with three yellow cards while playing mostly holding midfielder.
