Espindola (hamstring) is on the bench Friday against the Red Bulls.

Espindola was expected to return from his injury last Sunday against NYC FC but was eventually held out. While it's certainly a plus that he could play Friday, his fantasy value is obviously limited in a reserve role.

Espindola (hamstring) is out Sunday against NYC FC.

Espindola was expected to return from his injury, so it's a bit surprising that he didn't even make the bench. His next opportunity to play will come Friday and the Red Bulls.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Espindola is expected to return from his hamstring injury Sunday against New York City FC, according to Steven Goff of the Washington Post.

Espindola's injury turned out to be less severe than initially believed, and his return comes at a great time for D.C. United, who will be without Chris Rolfe this weekend due to suspension.

Espindola (hamstring) was initially expected to be out 2-to-4 weeks, but after an MRI he will miss just 1-to-2 weeks, according to Steven Goff of the Washington Post.

Even with the good news, the loss of Espindola will hurt the attack of D.C. Until he comes back Alvaro Saborio will likely start in Espindola's place.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Espindola is expected to be sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks because of the hamstring injury he suffered Saturday against the Revolution, the Washington Post reports.

The team will reportedly get Espindola's MRI results back Tuesday, which will help narrow down his possible return date, but it's still a fairly significant blow to their attack. Alvaro Saborio will likely start in his absence.

Espindola was removed from Saturday's match against the Revolution after suffering a right hamstring strain, according to Kyle McCarthy of the Boston Herald.

Espindola has been an excellent fantasy option of late, and his absence will be a big void to fill. Alvaro Saborio came on to replace him Saturday and would presumably start for him if he has to miss any additional time.

Espindola netted two goals in Saturday's 4-0 win against Vancouver.

Espindola put away two goals on his six shots, all of which were on goal. He was a crucial part of D.C. United's attack and scored on either side of the break in the 39th and 54th minutes. This was his third goal of the season and his third start of the season. Looking ahead he'll try to continue this goal scoring form and be an important part of their attack.

Espindola had seven shots, only one on goal, and had a penalty kick saved in Saturday's 0-3 loss to Dallas.

Espindola was in the starting lineup following a solid performance off the bench against Colorado last week. His 66th minute penalty kick was easily saved by Chris Seitz and although he had seven shots, only the penalty kick was on target. It remains to be seen whether he retains the starting spot or we see the return of Luciano Acosta in the starting lineup against San Jose on Saturday.
