Kompany was taken off early in the second half in Belgium's Euro 2016 qualifier against Andorra on Friday, but he said the injury was not serious, ESPN FC reports. "I came off as a precaution," Kompany said, who had an ice pack on his knee after the match. "Before the game, I already had a slight problem and the coach decided to take me out."

The news that Kompany had an issue coming in is news, as there had been nothing from Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini of late confirming anything wrong with his star centreback. Kompany said that he is getting ready for Belgium's next match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which certainly bodes well for his status for Man City, who face Tottenham on Oct. 18 after the international break.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Kompany registered his second clean sheet of the season during Manchester City's 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

City's defense has struggled this season, as the clean sheet was Kompany's first since a season-opening 2-0 win over Newcastle back on Aug. 17. Not that he figures in the attack much, but Kompany also has yet to score a goal or assist on one, so a majority of his fantasy value in most leagues comes from shutting opponents out. He's got a run of relatively tough fixtures after the international break, facing Tottenham on Oct. 18, West Ham on Oct. 25 and Manchester United on Nov. 2.

Kompany picked up a yellow card, but posted a clean sheet during Manchester City's 2-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday.

Kompany doesn't get involved in the attack much, although he's been known to score on the occasional corner and set piece. That being said, his fantasy value lies in his ability to register clean sheets, which he did Sunday. It will likely be a bit tougher in Gameweek 2, as City host the high-powered Liverpool attack at the Etihad.

Kompany signed a five-year contract extension with Manchester City on Wednesday.

Kompany remains one of the elite central defenders in the Premier League and he captains a side that is expected to post plenty of clean sheets this season, especially at home.

Manchester City could offer Kompany a new six-year contract that would see the defender finish his career with the club, according to the Daily Mail.

Certain rumors have suggested Kompany may be on the shopping list of Barcelona this summer, but City manager Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful of securing the defender's services for the future.

Kompany, who has been battling a slight groin injury, started and played all 90 minutes of Belgium's 1-0 win over Russia in the World Cup on Sunday.

Belgium advanced to the knockout stage with the clean sheet, and will face Korea Republic on Thursday to solidify the top spot in the group.

Kompany missed training Thursday due to a slight groin injury, the Associated Press reports.

Coach Marc Wilmots did not seem overly concerned with Kompany's injury and he is fully expected to play Sunday against Russia. Belgium can advance to the knockout stage if they grab all three points Sunday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Kompany, who limped out of training Saturday with an injury, is in the starting XI for Sunday's match against Liverpool at Anfield.

A huge boost for City, who were quite concerned that Kompany may miss out after suffering his injury so close to Sunday's match. With such a big game, it's not surprising that Kompany made his way back, although it is certainly possible he could be left out of the starting XI for Wednesday's home match against Sunderland.
