Kompany (calf) has been ruled out of Saturday's match against Newcastle United. "Kompany's calf is still injured—we'll see if he's fit after the international break," manager Manuel Pellegrini said on Friday.

The Belgian center half is one of the most important players on the pitch when healthy, though staying fit has been tough for the 29-year-old. This season, he's played in five Premier League matches and has two goals after scoring none in all of last season.

With a goal in both of his last two matches, Theo Walcott looks primed to get a start for the Gunners against a Chelsea side that has allowed the most goals this season.

Kompany was a late scratch for Saturday's game against Spurs.

Kompany was named to the bench after recovering from a calf injury, but he was replaced by George Evans just before kickoff, with Manchester City not giving a reason for the change. If it's injury related, Kompany seems like a serious injury doubt for Wednesday's Champions League match against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Kompany (calf) is available off the bench Saturday against Spurs.

Kompany was deemed fit by manager Manuel Pellegrini on Friday, but he'll get a rest Saturday with the likelihood that he'll return to the starting XI for Wednesday's Champions League match against Borussia Monchengladbach. Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelis will be the starting centerbacks at White Hart Lane.

Kompany (calf) has been deemed fit for Saturday's match against Tottenham.

Kompany missed a little time with his injury, but it was never considered serious and he will likely slot right back into the starting lineup alongside Nicolas Otamendi, who is starting in place of the injured Eliquim Mangala (muscular injury).

Kompany (calf) has been ruled out for Saturday's match against West Ham.

Kompany suffered the injury during Wednesday's Champions League match against Juventus, and not only has he been ruled out for this weekend's match, he will also sit for Tuesday's FA Cup match against Sunderland, though it was always possible he'd be rested for that anyway. Nicolas Otamendi is expected to get his first start for the injured Kompany.

Kompany insisted that there were no excuses and that Manchester City must be better in the Champions League than the squad has been in past seasons, according to the Daily Mail.

City has exited the competition in the round of 16 the last two seasons. City has won two league titles, the FA Cup, and Capital One Cup since 2008, but has failed to discover similar success in the European competition.

Kompany scored on his only shot attempt and was issued a yellow card while recording a clean sheet in Sunday's 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

That marks two goals in as many games for the Belgian center half after scoring none across all competitions for club and country last year. He does have a tendency to collect cards, picking up seven in 25 appearances in the EPL last season. While he does have one of the best headers among center backs, he's unlikely to keep up this torrid scoring rate, though he does have a chance to break his career-high of four league goals, set in 2013-14.

Kompany put his name on the scoresheet in Monday's season-opening 3-0 win over West Brom when he headed in the third goal of the match.

Kompany and team were also able to add the clean sheet to an ideal opening match. Manchester City dominated much of the match and West Brom manager Tony Pulis took blame for his squad's defeat by saying he selected the wrong team.
