Pirlo recorded his first MLS assist on David Villa's 80th-minute goal during NYC FC's 3-1 win over D.C. United on Thursday.

Pirlo set up Villa perfectly on a pass that many would argue only he could make, though it should be noted a previous giveaway directly led to D.C.'s lone goal. Pirlo's spot in the starting XI is locked in, but he's not a big goal scorer, so high fantasy expectations should be put in check.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Pirlo was quiet in his first start for NYC FC, taking one shot and drawing two fouls in a loss to Montreal.

Pirlo showed his incredible free kick ability and his one shot was just off the mark, but he's a relatively limited fantasy option for the most part, as he doesn't take a high number of shots and is very dependent on other players to finish off his passes.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Pirlo is in the starting lineup Saturday against Montreal.

Pirlo made his NYC FC debut last weekend against Orlando City, and it was only a matter of time before he jump right into the lineup. He's a master of free kicks, but he doesn't doesn't score a ton and is a bit dependent on assists to make a big fantasy impact.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Pirlo came on for Mehdi Ballouchy in the 57th minute of NYC FC's 5-3 win over Orlando City on Sunday, finishing with 35 passes and a yellow card.

Pirlo appeared to pick up a secondary assist on David Villa's 67th minute goal, but it was later determined not to be the case. He just joined the club last Tuesday, so it's unclear how long it will take for him to get his fitness level high enough to start, but it's clear that once he's healthy enough, he'll be locked into the starting lineup.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Pirlo is available off the bench Sunday against Orlando City.

Pirlo joined up with the squad earlier this week and trained for the first time Tuesday, so it's not surprising that he's only on the bench Sunday. He's fully expected to make an appearance at some point, though that's tough to bank on for fantasy purposes. His next shot at a start will come next Saturday against Montreal.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Pirlo (match fitness) is expected to start training this week and could even be available for Sunday's game against Orlando City, Glenn Crooks of WFAN New York reports.

Pirlo will eventually end up in the starting XI for NYC but there's a possibility that he'll be acclimated to MLS off the bench during his first week or so. With the new arrival of Frank Lampard (calf) incoming as a well, midfielders like Ned Grabavoy, Mehdi Ballouchy, Thomas McNamara, and Kwadwo Poku are all on the hot seat for less playing time.

Juventus announced Monday that Pirlo has left the club for a career in Major League Soccer, Football Italia reports.

Pirlo had an amazing career in Italy but will spend his twilight years in the MLS with New York City FC. The official terms of his contract are through Dec. 2017 as he joins David Villa and Frank Lampard as the three designated players on the roster. The 36-year-old will be eligible for selection against Toronto FC on Sunday and should be a perennial starter once he begins his career stateside.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Pirlo has agreed to terms with NYC FC, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports.

While this agreement is still unofficial, Pirlo has been spotted numerous times over the last few days in New York, making his potential move to the MLS plausible when considering that NYC FC is the front runner for the 36-year-old Italian who played for Juventus last season. If the midfielder does in fact head stateside, he won't be able to begin his MLS career until July 8 when the secondary transfer window opens up since he still has one year remaining on his current deal with Juventus.
