Gerrard is dealing with a muscle strain, and while he will not play in the All-Star Game on Wednesday, he may be able to play Saturday against the Rapids, manager Bruce Arena said Wednesday.

Gerrard's injury was never considered serious, particularly since there was no mention of any injury until he decided to pass on the All-Star Game. He has linked up exceptionally well with forward Robbie Keane early in his Galaxy tenure, and they are both expected to play Saturday.

Gerrard will not play in the All-Star Game on Wednesday because of an undisclosed injury.

Galaxy teammate Robbie Keane also pulled out of the exhibition game, and there is some talk that the players are fine and simply wanting to get out of the extra match in order to be fully prepared to face the Rapids on Saturday.

Gerrard scored in the 37th minute and assisted on Robbie Keane's 64th minute goal during the Galaxy's 5-2 win over the Earthquakes on Friday.

Gerrard started in a more forward position than was expected, as the Galaxy were without Gyasi Zardes and Alan Gordon because of the Gold Cup, but the Liverpool legend looked plenty comfortable up with Robbie Keane. Gerrard played 88 minutes, which was much more than expected in his league debut. He'll look to continue his excellent play next weekend at Houston.

Gerrard will make his MLS debut against the Earthquakes on Friday.

Gerrard is lined up right behind Robbie Keane in head coach Bruce Arena's 4-2-3-1 formation Friday. The Englishman has generally played farther back throughout his career with Liverpool, but the Galaxy are dealing with a few absences and there's a chance Gerrard will move back in the formation when his new squad is at full strength later on in the season.

Gerrard will make his Galaxy debut Saturday against Club America in an International Champions Cup match, head coach Bruce Arena confirmed Thursday. "We're playing him 45 minutes," Arena said. "We're playing two teams with 45 minutes each."

Gerrard's inclusion in the squad Saturday, when the Galaxy have an MLS bye, should all but guarantee that he'll be available when their MLS schedule picks up again July 17 against the Earthquakes.

Gerrard will join the Galaxy for training on July 7.

Gerrard will be eligible for selection starting July 8 when the secondary transfer window opens, although the Galaxy won't have an MLS game until July 17 against San Jose. It remains unclear what his role will be at the onset of his availability, but the longtime Liverpool member should be a staple in the starting XI in short order.

Gerrard finished his 17th and final season at Anfield with nine goals and one assist on 29 Premier League appearances.

Gerrard took 54 shots, 21 on goal, during his swan song with Liverpool and consequentially was a viable option in most formats based on his offensive opportunities as a midfielder. He intends to finish out his playing career in the MLS but it's still unclear exactly when he'll join the LA Galaxy as he rests up after spending 2,236 minutes on the pitch for Liverpool during the 2014-15 season.

Gerrard marked his eighth goal of the Premier League season off a header in the 44th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Gerrard only took one shot during the match and made it count before getting subbed off the pitch in the 79th minute for Lucas. The 34-year-old should be featured in the starting XI for his final two matches for Liverpool, the first of which coming against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
