Cole (calf) was available off the bench during Aston Villa's 0-3 loss to Liverpool on Saturday but ultimately never came onto the pitch.

Cole had been dealing with a calf injury ahead of Saturday's game but seems to be in the clear moving forward. Although, he hasn't recorded any minutes on the pitch this Premier League season as he's not currently in manager Paul Lambert's plans.

Cole is dealing with a calf injury and may not be available for Saturday's match against Arsenal, the Daily Star reports.

Cole has dealt with multiple injuries this season and hasn't played in a Premier League match for Aston Villa as a result. However, his most recent calf injury doesn't seem too alarming for his long-term availability.

Cole, who was held out of Aston Villa's Premier League opener against Stoke City last weekend due to a thigh injury, was an unused substitute for their scoreless draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

Cole suffered the thigh injury back in July during Villa's preseason tour in the United States, and while he has been training fully, it's going to take awhile before he's fantasy relevant.

Cole (thigh) is back training with the Villans after being held back for the majority of the preseason, Aston Villa's Official Site reports.

Even though Cole has only participated in one friendly this preseason, he's still expected to be fit enough for the opener against Stoke City on Saturday. Although, it's looking like he'll only be used in a reserve role.

Cole hasn't been able to participate in Villa's series of friendlies in Texas due to a thigh injury, but he's expected to start running in the coming weeks, Express & Star reports.

Beyond just running, manager Paul Lambert believes that Cole will be fit enough to play in Villa's Aug. 16th opener versus Stoke City. Cole's availability will likely just provide depth to Villa's bench since he only made six starts last year with West Ham.

Cole underwent a medical with Aston Villa on Sunday after being released by West Ham, The Mirror reports.

Cole had a disappointing stint with the Hammers, making only six starts last season. Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert doesn't have much financial room to play with this summer, so getting Cole at a discount is a gamble he's willing to take. However, the former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder doesn't have much to offer fantasy owners at this point in his career.
