Keane took three shots, with two on target, and scored in the 81st minute of LA's 2-0 win over the Fire on Friday.

After scoring 19 goals last season en route to an MVP award, Keane is starting off 2015 with a bang. He's easily among the elite forwards in MLS and plenty of goals should result if he can stay healthy.

Keane had a number of chances but failed to convert in the Galaxy's season-opening loss to Real Salt Lake.

Keane notably hit a post in the first half and then was stopped on a penalty late in the game. On one hand, he was able to work himself into a number of scoring opportunities, but on the other he failed to convert and looked to be a little behind on his fitness, which isn't a surprise given that he was working his way back from offseason Achilles surgery.

Keane signed a multi-year contract extension on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports. Terms and duration of the deal were not disclosed.

Keane set clubs records with 16 goals and 11 assists last year in 23 games, and he has scored 34 goals, while assisting on 21 others since joining the club in August 2011. He is working his way back from an Achilles injury, but he is expected to be fit for the season opener, which comes Saturday against Real Salt Lake.

Keane, who had offseason surgery on both Achilles' tendons, saw his first preseason action on Wednesday against UCLA in a closed game. He then scored two goals Saturday in a win over the Galaxy's USLPRO affiliate club LA Galaxy II.

Keane is knocking off a bit of rust, but all signs point to him being ready for the start of the MLS season.
