Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Genao had something of a lost season in 2025, although he is still just 21 and was added to the 40-man roster this offseason. A sprained right shoulder sidelined Genao until June, and it's possible the shoulder issue sapped some power, although it's worth noting he homered three times in eight complex-league rehab games, so it could also be facing Double-A pitching for the first time that stymied his offensive impact. He slashed .259/.323/.359 with two home runs and six steals in 77 games at Double-A. The 21-year-old switch hitter only played shortstop last season and his defensive abilities will put less pressure on his bat, but he'll still need to hit for more power than he did at Double-A. Genao, who reportedly grew an inch and added muscle this past offseason, stole 25 bases in 110 games in 2024, so it would be nice for him to bounce back in that category as well. He is a nice rebound target in offseason dynasty trades. Read Past Outlooks

2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Guardians have a knack for acquiring and developing hit-over-power prospects who project to add defensive value, and Genao is one of the more exciting such archetypes to come through the system. Genao was promoted to High-A Lake County on June 3, just two weeks after his 20th birthday, and slashed .322/.377/.463 with four home runs, 13 steals and a 16.3 percent strikeout rate in 66 games. He didn't hit for the same power as he did at Single-A to start the year (six HR, .212 ISO in 44 games), but his hit tool remained a strength and he tallied 25 steals in 110 games on the year. Genao started 36 games at shortstop, 16 games at second base and 11 games at third base for the Lake Captains, and he'll fit in wherever there's an opening on the dirt when he's big-league ready in a year or two. He is bigger than his listed 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, but not much bigger, and the young switch hitter should remain hit-over-power indefinitely.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Seen as likely trade candidate
Genao could become Cleveland's top trade chip if the Guardians pursue a significant upgrade before the deadline, according to MLB.com.
Analysis
Cleveland's infield depth gives the organization options that many clubs lack ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline. With Brayan Rocchio, Travis Bazzana and Jose Ramirez entrenched as long-term infield options despite Ramirez's current injury, Genao could become expendable if the Guardians identify the right trade opportunity. Genao is considered a top prospect in the Guardians organization and has been playing at Triple-A Columbus since early May, posting an .887 OPS across 234 plate appearances.
