The Pirates acquired Jefferies from the Giants on Friday in exchange for Rodolfo Nolasco, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jefferies had been designated for assignment after allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits and two walks over 4.2 innings during his brief time with the Giants. It was his first stint in the big leagues since 2022, as he missed all of 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Jefferies figures to join the rotation at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could get another rotation chance
Jefferies could soon be called up to fill out the Giants' rotation after Blake Snell was placed on the injured list Wednesday with an adductor strain.
ANALYSIS
Jefferies made one start for San Francisco during the opening week of the season but dealt with hip discomfort and was tagged for five earned runs over two innings before being sent down. The right-hander has pitched much better at Triple-A Sacramento with a 3.38 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB over 13.1 innings. The Giants could also go with a higher-upside option like prospect Mason Black, but Jefferies hold an advantage since he's already on the 40-man roster.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2021
2020
Arm injuries always seem to be the story with Jefferies. In 2021 it was biceps tendinitis early in the year and a flexor strain at the end of the year. The 6-foot righty has thrown 193.1 pro innings since getting drafted in 2016. He has nine strikeouts in 17 career MLB innings, so even if he is more durable than expected, there's not a high fantasy ceiling. When healthy, he has shown solid command and a starter's pitch mix. The A's will let him compete for a rotation spot in spring training, but there's little reason to invest in drafts.
