Clement spent 30 games in the majors in 2023, slashing an impressive .380/.385/.500 across 52 plate appearances, backing up 320 Triple-A plate appearances where he hit .348/.401/.544. The small sample in the majors also came with a .885 OPS as he played well when given an opportunity. Therein lies the problem however, as Clement's chances were few and far between in 2023. A measure of contact quality from Sports Info Solutions. This stat explains what percentage of batted balls were hit hard vs. medium or soft.
Barrels/PA
The percentage of plate appearances where a batter had a batted ball classified as a Barrel. A Barrel is a batted ball with similar exit velocity and launch angle to past ones that led to a minimum .500 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage.

2020

Clement, a fourth-round pick by Cleveland in 2017, spent 2020 at the team's alternate site as part of the 60-player pool. His 2019 season at Double-A was underwhelming for a 23-year-old at that level, but Clement did follow that up with a respectable .303/.365/.364 showing in the Arizona Fall League that year. He must have held his own in intrasquad games since Cleveland added him to the 40-man roster in November of 2020. Contact and speed with have to carry Clement since he does not any real power to speak of -- not enough to realistically profile as Francisco Lindor's long-term replacement at shortstop. Chances are, Clement will max out as a utility player. There is nothing wrong with that.

Cleveland selected Clement with the 132nd pick of the 2017 draft. As a freshman with Virginia, Clement was the shortstop when the Cavaliers won the College World Series in 2015. The following summer, he as named the Cape Cod League MVP. Clement's calling card is contact with above average speed but no power. He's known as a heady player with the glove to play shortstop but an arm more befitting the keystone. Clement also played center field in college, adding to the likelihood his long-term future is as a defensive minded utility player, with the ability to get on base and steal some bases. That said, Clement needs to work on technique as the 65 percent success rate recorded in the minors won't cut it at the highest level. Clement should open 2020 with Triple-A Columbus where he played three games to finish the 2020 campaign.
