2026 Fantasy Outlook
Ashcraft was stretched out last spring for a possible spot in the Reds' starting rotation, but was shifted to the bullpen before the 2025 season began. The transition was a success early on, as the 27-year-old tallied four holds through his first seven relief outings; all of which were scoreless. He'd finish the season with 23 holds - tied for 19th in the league - but not without some adversity along the way. Not only did he make two trips to the IL due to groin and forearm strains, respectively, his performance suffered at various points during the season. Having scrapped his sinker and changeup, Ashcraft relied solely on his cutter (54 percent usage) and slider (46 percent). The latter was effective, but opposing hitters teed off on his cutter (.328 BA, .438 SLG). On the plus side, Ashcraft kept the ball inside the park, permitting just two home runs all year. The hard-throwing righty should maintain his setup role for CIncinnati to open 2026. Read Past Outlooks

Ashcraft allowed four runs on one hit and three walks without retiring a batter in the eighth inning of Friday's 7-6 win over Cleveland.
Analysis
Ashcraft walked the first three batters he faced on 12 pitches before giving up a run-scoring single. His night was done after 15 pitches (three strikes) and more runs were charged to him when Brock Burke walked in two more runs and allowed a third on a sacrifice fly. Ashcraft, who entered Friday with three consecutive scoreless outings, is part of an unsettled closer mix since Emilio Pagan (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Since the injury, Ashcraft has allowed six runs with four walks and a blown save over four innings.

A 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in his first 12 starts to open the season earned Ashcraft a ticket back to Triple-A Louisville in early June. He was optioned again in July, although the Reds later voided that move and instead placed Ashcraft on the injured list with a right elbow strain. We didn't see him on a big-league mound after July 7, but the right-hander was said to be in line for a normal offseason. While the players speak highly of Ashcraft's stuff, it hasn't translated to strikeouts or results. The Reds could re-evaluate his spot on the 40-man roster or, more likely, stash him at Triple-A as depth if he doesn't earn a job in spring training.

Appears headed for hearing
Ashcraft requested $1.75 million and was offered $1.25 million by the Reds when arbitration figures were exchanged last week, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis
An arbitrator will determine Ashcraft's 2026 salary at a hearing in the coming weeks, unless the two sides can come to terms on a multi-year pact in the meantime. As a first-time arbitration-eligible player, Ashcraft will receive a nice pay bump either way. The big righty made a full-time switch to relief in 2025 and posted a 3.99 ERA and 64:25 K:BB over 65.1 regular-season innings.
