2024 Fantasy Outlook
Butler hasn't played more than 65 regular-season games since 2016-17 - his final year in Chicago. Despite consistently missing time, he's still been an elite fantasy option, finishing inside the top 40 in eight-category leagues in six straight campaigns before a 62nd-place finish in 2023-24. Last season was an odd one for the veteran statistically. He averaged at least 20 points, five assists and five rebounds for a fourth straight year, plus he shot a career-high 41.4 percent from deep on 2.4 attempts per game. However, his 1.3 steals per game was his lowest mark since 2012-13, which severely impacted his value in category leagues. A healthy Terry Rozier and Tyler Herro, plus another year of development for Nikola Jovic and Jaime Jaquez, could mean fewer offensive responsibilities for Butler in 2024-25. However, when it matters, Butler is still the leading man in Miami and should see plenty of usage. His days of being a perennial top-20 pick may be over, but Butler is still a safe selection in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Notches 17 points
Butler had 17 points (4-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 9-11 FT), six rebounds, six assists and three steals over 42 minutes during Wednesday's 121-110 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
ANALYSIS
As the Warriors lost Stephen Curry (hamstring) at the beginning of this series, Butler wasn't able to prevent the Timberwolves from winning four straight games to eliminate Golden State. Butler had his struggles in this series, shooting 43.0 percent from the field with a low usage rate, all things considered. Butler will be 36 years old Opening Night in 2025-26, and his fantasy upside is likely to be limited again as the presumed No. 2 option on offense behind Curry. In 30 regular-season appearances for the Warriors following a trade, Butler produced 17.9 points, 5.9 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 0.6 three-pointers in 32.7 minutes per game.

While Butler is known for his incredible playoff performances, his regular-season production is still pretty stellar. In 2022-23, he averaged 22.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 33.4 minutes across 64 games. He doesn't provide much three-point volume, as he attempted just 1.6 per contest last year. However, his 53.9 percent shooting from the field and 85.0 percent shooting on 8.7 free-throw attempts per game are both elite marks. Butler provides quality all-around production, including on the defensive end. The star forward hasn't played more than 65 games since 2016-17, but his lowest number of appearances in that span is 52 in a pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign. This consistency from Butler is helpful because fantasy managers know what to expect in terms of his game played. The losses of Gabe Vincent and Max Strus, combined with the additions of Josh Richardson and Thomas Bryant, are unlikely to affect Butler's production much. Overall, Butler is a safe fantasy option best suited for eight-category formats.

"I'm completely content with who I am as a basketball player, the way that I play the game," Butler said. "And to come here and know that I'm second to Steph, I think that's a really good thing, actually, when you talk about one of the greatest players ever to play this game. I get to come here and be his sidekick for a couple more years hopefully." After the Warriors acquired Butler, they went 23-8 in the regular season and ranked first in defensive efficiency and first in assists per game during that span.
