Cut loose by L.A.
The Lakers waived Wood (knee) on Tuesday, NBA reporter Chris Haynes reports.
ANALYSIS
Los Angeles will move on from Wood in order to make room on the roster for veteran center Alex Len, who agreed to a one-year deal Tuesday. Wood didn't appear in a single game for the Lakers this season while recovering from left knee surgery that he underwent in September. The 29-year-old could end up latching on with a club looking for depth in the frontcourt, though it's unclear where he stands in his recovery from surgery and how close he might be to playing again.

Wood picked up his $3.4 million player option to remain with the Lakers this offseason. Despite undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in February that caused him to miss the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign, the 28-year-old big man is expected to be healthy coming into next season. Last season, Wood averaged 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.7 blocks in 17.4 minutes across 50 regular-season appearances, including one start. However, his efficiency was alarming, as he posted just 46.6/30.7/70.2 shooting splits. Wood shot over 50 percent from the field in each of the previous six years and had consistently been an above-average three-point shooter. While he could progress back to his typical shooting splits, it's hard to envision him receiving increased playing time if he remains inefficient. With Jaxson Hayes also competing for backup center minutes behind Anthony Davis, Wood holds limited fantasy value in 2024-25 unless there's an injury ahead of him on the depth chart.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Inching closer to return?
Wood is recovering from knee surgery and believes he's around a month away from being able to play, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
The big man was asked about his recovery process and said he thinks he has about two weeks left of rehab from injury and then two weeks of ramp-up before being able to play, which would put his return date toward the beginning of November. Even though that means Wood would likely miss the start of the 2024-25 regular season, he should add depth to the Lakers' frontcourt when available. Wood logged 50 regular-season appearances for the Lakers in 2023-24, averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
