Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Aaron Holiday was born in 1996 in Ruston, Louisiana. He is the son of Shawn and Toya Holiday and is the youngest of four children. Older brothers Jrue and Justin have also played in the NBA, while his parents both played college ball at Arizona State. His mother was named Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1982. Aaron played his high school ball at Campbell Hall in Los Angeles, California. He won Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year honors after both his junior and senior seasons, sharing the award with Bennie Boatwright as a senior. Fans can follow Holiday on Twitter (@The_4th_Holiday). Aaron Holiday spent three years (2015-18) at the University of California - Los Angeles. He started all 32 games he played in as a freshman, averaging 10.3 points and 4 assists per contest. Holiday's 127 assists were the most by a UCLA freshman since his brother, Jrue, had 129 in 2008-09. As a sophomore, Holiday improved his stats despite getting on the court for fewer minutes. Playing behind current Pelicans' point guard Lonzo Ball, Holiday averaged 12.3 points and 4.4 assists per game, and was named the nation's Sixth Man of the Year by Bleacher Report. He would be one of five Bruins to finish the year averaging double digits in scoring. Holiday broke out in a big way as a junior, averaging 20.3 points and 5.8 assists in 33 games, all starts. Holiday led the Pac-12 in points per game, earning first-team All-Pac-12 Conference honors and becoming one of five players selected to the conference's All-Defensive Team. Holiday concluded his career ranking 25th on UCLA's all-time scoring list, and his 4.72 career mark for assists per game ranks seventh in school history.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Gaining confidence in shot
GHouston Rockets
December 11, 2023
Holiday is making 48.5 percent of his shots from the field and 43.4 percent from three over 18 games this season.
ANALYSIS
Despite averaging only 7.4 points per contest, Holiday has shown improvement in his shot both from beyond the arc and in the mid-range. He knocked down 41.8 percent of his field-goal attempts and 40.9 percent of his shots from deep through 63 matchups a season ago, and while it's still early in the year, his results to this point indicate he's moving in the right direction. "I think I am a pretty good shooter," said Holiday after Wednesday's win over the Thunder, per Sam Amico of Hoops Wire. "Every shot I shoot, I think it's going in. Sometimes, it just doesn't, that's the way it goes. For the most part, I think they are going in."

Now residing in Atlanta, it's hard to see Holiday playing a significant role for a Hawks team that also acquired Dejounte Murray this offseason. During the 2021-22 season, Holiday split his time between Washington and Phoenix, exceeding 25 minutes on just seven occasions. While he will provide some backup minutes at both guard positions, there are simply too many mouths to feed at this point, leaving him as a fringe deep league asset, at best.
A strong second season with the Pacers led to higher expectations for Holiday in his third season with Indiana. The guard regressed in his third year and finished the 2020-21 season with averages of 7.2 points, 1.9 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals. Holiday made 39.0 percent from the field, 81.9 percent from the charity stripe and 36.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc during the 2020-21 campaign. After being traded to the Wizards during the offseason, Holiday will have a chance to compete for the main backup point guard role. The 24-year-old will battle with Raul Neto for minutes at guard off the bench. If Holiday can beat out Neto for extended minutes, he should be able to increase his points and assists. However, he's likely only to offer value in the deepest of fantasy formats.
Holiday made noticeable improvements as a sophomore as he took on a bigger role. He was often entrusted as a starter while teammates dealt with injury, with Holiday starting half of his 66 appearances. As a reserve, he averaged 7.6 points, 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 18.5 minutes. While starting, Holiday averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and just over one steal per game in 30.5 minutes. Heading into 2020-21, Holiday's role isn't expected to expand significantly, unless Victor Oladipo gets traded and a backcourt spot opens up. As a result, fantasy managers should likely only take a chance on Holiday as a flier in deeper leagues. For now, he's mostly a dynasty league target with upside as a passer and three-point shooter.
The 23rd overall pick in 2018, Holiday served as the third point guard on Indiana's depth chart. Apart from his field-goal percentage, Holiday was solid overall, posting averages of 5.9 points (40.1 FG%, 33.9 3P%, 82.0 FT%), 1.7 assists, 1.3 rebounds, 0.9 threes, 0.4 steals and 0.3 blocks in 12.9 minutes across 50 appearances. With the Pacers essentially swapping out Darren Collison and Cory Joseph for Malcolm Brogdon and T.J. McConnell this summer, there's a chance Holiday begins 2019-20 as Brogdon's primary backup at point guard, though he'll have to beat McConnell out for the job. If that happens, an uptick in minutes combined with Holiday's aggressiveness offensively could mean a small breakout is on the horizon, especially with Victor Oladipo (knee) expected to remain sidelined until at least December. Still, the Pacers were the seventh-slowest team in the league last season in terms of pace. That's not expected to change, and it could limit possessions and make it difficult for Holiday to consistently fill up the stat sheet.
Holiday had rather pedestrian freshman and sophomore years at UCLA, but then burst onto the scene as a junior in 2017-18. He became a dominant scorer, having the ability to beat opposing defenders off the dribble or simply pull up and knock down shots from the perimeter. Holiday led the Bruins offensively with 20.3 points per game and hit a ridiculous 42.9 percent of his three-pointers, which marked a third straight year shooting over 40 percent from deep. However, he was also a distributor when needed and played solid defense, adding 5.8 assists and 1.3 steals to his final stat line in college. Following the breakout year, Holiday elected to leave early for the professional ranks and was selected by the Pacers with the 23rd overall pick in the first round. While he's got two family members with NBA experience -- brothers Jrue Holiday and Justin Holiday -- there's still some concerns surrounding Holiday's size, as he stands just 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 185 pounds. He'll certainly bulk up, but he could have trouble defending some of the bigger guards in the league. Either way, Holiday isn't likely in line for a huge role as a rookie. Darren Collison is locked in as a starter and Cory Joseph has earned the backup role with solid reserve play, while Tyreke Evans was brought in this offseason and can also handle the ball when needed. That means Holiday will likely just see spot minutes most nights and the 2018-19 campaign should generally be considered a developmental year. That said, both Collison and Joseph are on expiring deals, which makes Holiday a prime dynasty target.
