2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mitchell spent the 2023-24 season as De'Aaron Fox's backup in Sacramento, but that won't be the case in 2024-25 after he was traded in late June in the deal that sent Jalen McDaniels to the Kings. This might lead to a more significant role for Mitchell. The Raptors are clearly in a rebuilding mode while the Kings aim to contend in the Western Conference. However, fantasy managers shouldn't get over-excited by this trade. Mitchell is expected to remain a backup for the Raptors, but instead of being Fox's replacement, he'll play behind Immanuel Quickley. Plus, Mitchell's numbers have been trending in the wrong direction ever since he averaged 11.5 points per game as a rookie and delivered a career-low 5.3 points per game in 2023-24. However, Mitchell posted a career-high mark in three-point shooting, draining 36.1 percent of his attempts on 2.2 attempts per game. Either way, the lack of production and the bench role suggest Mitchell should stay on waivers across all formats, with the lone path to fantasy relevancy being a potential injury to Quickley or Gradey Dick, who figures to start at shooting guard for the Raptors. It's rare to see a second-year player take such a drastic step backward, but that's what we saw with Mitchell. After averaging 11.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 0.7 steals in his rookie year, Mitchell averaged just 5.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.6 steals last season. It's easy to understand why because De'Aaron Fox took a step into stardom while Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter played playmaker when Fox was off the floor. We all know that Mitchell is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA, but he's not on the floor enough to impact fantasy. This breakout team also decided to stay pat in the offseason, and it's unlikely anything will change in this rotation with all the pieces remaining the same. There's simply no opportunity for Mitchell to produce with Fox in town, and a change of scenery might be his only choice if he wants to become a starter at some point. This is still a third-year player who was taken with the No. 9 pick, though, and we expect his averages to fall in the middle of those first two years. This is one of those guys who's a better real-life player than a fantasy option, and he should remain on your waiver wires unless something happens to Fox.

Expected to draw interest
Mitchell is expected to "draw interest from several teams," Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell is poised to become a restricted free agent this offseason, assuming the Heat extend him a qualifying offer. Mitchell was an obvious standout for Miami following his trade from Toronto. He appeared in 30 regular-season contests, putting up averages of 10.3 points, 5.3 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 44.7 percent from beyond the arc. It would be a big surprise if the Heat ended up letting him go elsewhere.
