                2025 Fantasy Outlook

In his second season, Whitehead split his time between the NBA and the G League in 2024-25. He made a total of 20 appearances for Brooklyn, posting averages of 5.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.7 three-pointers in 12.3 minutes per game. While his role was too insignificant to impact fantasy leagues, Whitehead showcased his long-range shooting with a 44.6 percent mark from beyond the arc. Despite this, his outlook for 2025-26 is murky at best. The Nets brought in four first-round rookies during the 2025 NBA Draft, and the team also added Michael Porter, Terance Mann and Haywood Highsmith to the equation. Whitehead isn't projected to be in the rotation for Opening Night, and the logjam across the board in Brooklyn makes it look like an unfavorable situation for fantasy managers. Whitehead returned to action during the 2024 Las Vegas Summer League after recovering from a January procedure to address a left shin stress reaction. A top high school prospect in 2022, Whitehead earned MVP honors at the McDonald's All-American Game before heading to Duke. He underwent surgery on his right foot before his freshman season and failed to stand out across 28 appearances before needing another offseason surgery because his foot didn't properly heal from the first one. Despite health concerns, the Nets used the No. 22 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft to select Whitehead, who made only two NBA appearances and four G League appearances as a rookie before being shut down. Whitehead struggled mightily with his shot during Summer League, and he'll presumably have to spend some time in the G League this season to shake off the rust before getting an NBA opportunity. However, if Whitehead can prove the injury concerns are behind him, the 6-foot-6 wing should get looks for the rebuilding Nets. Given that likely won't happen until later in the 2024-25 campaign, Whitehead can safely be left on waivers in standard leagues.

				  Fernandez talks him up
Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez has been impressed by Whitehead in camp, Sharif Phillips-Keaton of USA Today reported Wednesday.
				  ANALYSIS
"I can tell you he's gotten better," Fernandez said. "You look at his body from the summer, how hard he's worked, he's already gotten better and keeps taking advantage of his opportunities." Whitehead was limited to 20 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, and while his counting stats left a lot to be desired, he did hit his three-pointers at a 44.6 percent clip. While he's not projected to be in the rotation for Opening Night, that could change with a strong showing during the preseason.
