2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Nets had four first-round picks going into the 2025 NBA Draft, and they traded for a fifth, selecting Powell at No. 22 overall after a three-team deal with the Hawks and Celtics. He flashed elite 3-and-D potential during his lone season at North Carolina, and that'll likely have to be his calling card if he's going to crack the rotation as a rookie. Powell, along with fellow first-round picks Egor Denmin, Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf and Danny Wolf, will likely all see developmental minutes at some point during the 2025-26 campaign. However, beyond Cam Thomas, Michael Porter and Nic Claxton, the rest of Brooklyn's roster remains a mystery. Proven NBA role players like Terance Mann, Haywood Highsmith, Ziaire Williams, Jalen Wilson, Keon Johnson and Tyrese Martin will likely be ahead of Powell on the depth chart at first, but the Nets will have plenty of options to mix things up. Powell doesn't need to be drafted, especially in standard leagues, but he's worth keeping an eye on, especially if Brooklyn falls out of the playoff picture early. Read Past Outlooks

Selected by Nets
Powell was selected by the Nets with the No. 22 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
ANALYSIS
The pick was technically made by the Hawks, but a trade that will be finalized later sends the UNC product to Brooklyn. Powell is an elite athlete and high-motor player who averaged just 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 25.6 minutes per game as a true freshman at North Carolina. He primarily played off the ball with UNC and shot 37.9 percent from three-point range. Powell's athleticism helps him get downhill, where he showed an ability to finish through contact. He'll need plenty of refinement, but his athleticism should immediately translate to the NBA game. What Brooklyn does with restricted free agents Cam Thomas (hamstring) and Ziaire Williams (knee) will make Powell's role as a rookie clearer.

Will work out for Jazz
Powell will participate in a Jazz pre-draft workout Friday, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Powell, out of North Carolina, is considered a strong bet to be drafted either late in the first round or early in the second. Other players participating in this workout are Colorado State wing Nique Clifford, Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner and Tennessee guard Chaz Lanier. The Jazz have four picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, including two second-rounders, and Powell could be a target for the early stages of the second round.
