The Knicks brought back Sims on a one-year, $2.1 million contract this offseason after exercising his team option. Originally slated as the third-string center, Sims could see increased playing time with Mitchell Robinson expected to be out until at least December. The Knicks made a blockbuster trade right before training camp, sending Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns, who'll be New York's starting center. Precious Achiuwa and Sims should compete for backup minutes until Robinson returns. Sims has been a fringe rotation player over his three-year NBA career. He started 11 games last season, posting averages of 4.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 22.7 minutes a night during those contests. While not relevant in standard fantasy formats, those in deep leagues might want to monitor Sims, especially if Robinson remains out longer than expected. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Jericho Eduard Sims was born in October of 1998 in Minneapolis. He is the son of Charles and Kimberly Sims. Charles played basketball for the University of Minnesota. Jericho has five older brothers, four of whom played college sports. For prep school, the tall center attended Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Minneapolis and averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game his senior season. Sims then committed to the University of Texas, where he majored in African & African Diaspora Studies with a minor in Anthropology. At Texas, Sims was teammates with fellow NBA-big Mo Bamba. Sims played four seasons for the Longhorns. As a senior (2020-21), Sims posted 9.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. That summer Sims was picked by the New York Knicks with the 58th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. In early August the Knicks signed Sims to a two-way contract.
ANALYSIS With Karl-Anthony Towns returning from a one-game absence, Sims will slide back to the bench. The big man posted one assist across only six minutes in the starting lineup during Saturday's loss to Detroit. Sims will likely play an insignificant role off the bench while competing for minutes with Precious Achiuwa.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2021
Outside of a few bright spots, Sims was basically a non-factor during his rookie season, closing as the 281st-ranked player in standard leagues. The addition of Isaiah Roby only complicates things even more for Sims, something that could see him fall out of the rotation altogether. The Knicks are coming off a successful 2022-23 season and will be looking to build on that momentum. Head coach Tom Thibodeau is known for running a tight rotation at the best of times, even when his team is not competing. Barring a couple of injuries to other players, Sims is not worth drafting in most fantasy formats.
The No. 58 overall pick in this year's draft will fill one of the Knicks' two two-way spots in 2021-22, allowing him to freely move between the NBA team and New York's G League affiliate in Westchester throughout the season. With all of Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson ahead of him on the depth chart at center, Sims likely won't have many opportunities to play meaningful minutes for the Knicks as a rookie.

Thriving as rim protector
CNew York Knicks
December 5, 2024
Sims is making an impact as a rim protector in a backup role with the Knicks this season, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post. "He's really worked hard at it," Thibodeau said of Sims. "Very athletic. Great feet. And making the right decision at the right time. His athleticism is through the roof. He can react very quickly. And you need that. The rim protection is huge."
ANALYSIS Sims doesn't have a lot of things to offer on offense, but he's making his presence felt on defense. The big man is limiting opposing players to connecting on just 33 percent of their buckets within six feet of the rack. Making an impact on defense is the best way Sims has to secure steady playing time off the bench now that Precious Achiuwa is back in the rotation.
