Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Porter was born Nov. 15, 1999 in Columbia, Missouri. Porter has seven siblings. His mother, Lisa played college basketball at Iowa while his father, Michael Sr., played collegiately at New Orleans. Like his older brother, Michael, he began his high school career playing for the Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School in Columbia. As a freshman, he averaged 11.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, and as a sophomore, he won the Missouri Class 3 State Championship. After that, he attended Nathan Hale High School in Washington state, where they went a perfect 29-0 in his time there and won the Washington Class 3A State Championship. During that time, Porter averaged 14.3 points and 13.6 rebounds. After high school, Porter played at Missouri as a freshman before missing his sophomore season due to injury and then declaring for the 2019 NBA Draft. As a freshman, he averaged 9.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.7 blocks. As a result, he was named SEC Sixth-Man of the Year. Porter attended Missouri for his freshman season, earning 2017-18 SEC Sixth Man of the Year Award honors. He appeared in 33 games and made seven starts, averaging 9.9 points and leading the team in rebounding (6.8 per game) and blocks (55 total). He registered three double-doubles. His 326 points were the eighth-most all-time by a Tiger freshman. His 224 rebounds were fifth-most by a Tiger freshman. His 55 blocks were third-most by a Mizzou freshman. Over the team's final three regular-season games, he averaged 21.0 points, which included a career-high 24-point performance at Vanderbilt on Feb. 27 -- an effort that helped the team secure its first NCAA Tournament big since 2012-13.
ANALYSIS The younger brother of MIchael Porter spent the 2022-23 campaign in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd, but he was traded to Detroit's affiliate -- the Motor City Cruise -- on Tuesday in exchange for Kyler Edwards and Jaime Echenique. After inking an Exhibit 10 deal with Detroit, Porter will now get an opportunity to compete for a roster spot during training camp, but he'll most likely begin the 2023-24 campaign with Motor City.

Porter averaged 5.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in 13.4 minutes per game while appearing in all five of Chicago's Summer League contests.
ANALYSIS Porter racked up 10 blocks and five steals in just 67 total minutes. Although efficiency -- 42.3 percent shooting from the field -- was a concern, Porter actually improved after shooting just 35.3 percent from the field in 17 games with Milwaukee's G League affiliate last season. For Wisconsin, Porter's calling cards were his 11.4 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game over that span. Speculatively, he likely profiles as a popular name in G League circles, but he could also opt to seek a larger payday overseas.
Porter (illness) logged 23 points (9-23 FG, 5-14 3Pt), 11 rebounds, 11 assists and three blocks across 39 minutes during the Herd's 114-104 loss to Capital City on Thursday.
