New Zealander Brown shot a bogey-free eight-under 62 to lead the first round of the Hong Kong Open over Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and India's Jeev Milkha Singh by one shot.

Brown and McIlroy rang up eight birdies but McIlroy darkened his card with a bogey. Singh had seven birdies in a round that had nine-3s. The field has six players in the World Ranking top 50: McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Y. E. Yang, Ian Poulter, Charl Schwartzel and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
