Ovie and the Caps off to hot start in the East (NHL)

  • Stay calm, folks. Andrei Vasilevskiy started the Boston series the same way. He'll be fine.
  • Best line left in the West? Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler? Or Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith? The former scored 28 points in seven games against Nashville. The latter tallied 25 in six against San Jose. Who would have thought that in October?

  • How important is a mobile D? Five of the six goals scored Friday night were started by a blueliner.
  • Nikita Kucherov had just two points in five games last series. Steven Stamkos had four. The Bolts need more. Much more.
  • Momentum really is a cruel mistress. A likely tie heading into the first intermission became a 2-0 Caps lead. Talk about turning on a dime.
  • Best goalie in the West? Flip a coin. Both men share a .927 through the end of end of round two. Their GAA? Connor Hellebuyck is one-one hundredth "worse" than Marc Andre Fleury's 2.24. The Conn Smythe leader emerges from the blue paint.
  • Do you think the Pens ever wonder if they let their best goalie get away? Fleury is still playing and is the frontrunner for the Conn Smythe.
  • And in other news, the Leafs may finally be able to grow facial hair now that Lou Lamoriello is gone. Or not. There HAS to be a better story out of Toronto soon. Facial hair? Come on.
