Opening Day Live Blog

- We've already had two games canceled due to weather, raising the usual calls to start games in warmer locales for Opening Day. There's two problems with this. One, there's a financial benefit to opening at home for the season, on the actual Opening Day. Not too many owners are willingly going to give that up every year. Two, there's plenty of weather issues in week two as well - the problems wouldn't necessarily be alleviated by making cold-weather cities wait an extra week. Anything longer than the first week on the road would lead to a competitive disadvantage.

- Johan Santana needed 30 pitches to get through the first inning, but was dominant nonetheless. The Reds didn't get much in the way of good swings against him, and were behind every fastball.

- Likewise, Aaron Harang has looked pretty strong through two innings so far, locating his fastball well.
