Playoff Observations -- Friday

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • I swore the ice was littered with jockstraps in the second -- Alexander Ovechkin absolutely undressed at least three Blueshirts en route to that goal. Debate -- was it better than his infamous on-the-back-and-rolling goal? I think so.
  • Anyone know how to get beer out of a suit? Does club soda work for that, too?
  • Sean Avery was a healthy scratch. The Rangers play .500 hockey with him out and something like .660 (or so) with him in. He had to be disciplined -- it's totally a trust issue here. But my money says he's back next game, trust or not.
  • I know the Caps were stoked -- it was do or die and it's hard to match that kind of emotion. But I caught the Rangers' trainers checking for pulses in the first period. Flat? They were barely breathing they were that bad.
  • King Henrik Lundqvist lost his crown -- he wasn't even princely. He flat out sucked.
  • Simeon Varlamov became the first goalie ever to register two postseason shutouts before his 21st birthday. I know he's talented and all, but does anyone else out there think he relies far too much on athleticism to get the job done? I have seen that kind of flopping since the cod fishery collapsed.
  • Shout out to the toast of Stittsville -- Matt Bradley. Two goals including a shortie.
