What We're Keeping our Eis On -- Saturday Edition

Light evening schedule today. Let's hear it for day baseball! (Lee Elia may oppose that sentiment).

Here's what the Rotowire Army and I will be watching:

PHI @ WAS (Game 2 of a Double-Header)

Andrew Carpenter v Daniel Cabrera

This was supposed to be J.A. Happ's start, but he threw two innings Friday… Carpenter had a 4.72 ERA in 34.1 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley to go with a 23:15 K:BB… A bit young, and this start may not reflect his potential… Cabrera was chased Monday after allowing eight runs on eight hits and six walks in 4.1 innings… His job security appears shaky and he needs a good start

Lineup Notes: Chase Utley sat Game 1 but will play Game 2… Elijah Dukes' hamstring is better, but Willie Harris starts in center… Dukes could pinch hit

LA @ FLA

Eric Milton v Andrew Miller

This is Milton's first start since May of 2007… He had not allowed a run in his past two appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque… He had 27 K's to six walks for the Isotopes… A good start and he should have a spot in the rotation until the beginning of June… This is Miller's first start since suffering an oblique injury at the end of April… He was not pitching that well before the injury but posted decent numbers in his rehab stint… .222 BAA and 10 strikeouts (three walks) in 10 innings between High-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville

Lineup Notes: Due to blackout restrictions, this game will be unavailable on MLB.tv until 7:05 ET… Dan Uggla was ejected for arguing balls and strikes Friday, but should play on Saturday… Hanley Ramirez is on a 12-game hitting streak… Emilio Bonifacio has hit in seven straight

COL @ PIT

Aaron Cook v Ian Snell

Cook has held batters to a batting average under .200 over his past two starts (@SD, FLA)… He has focused on his mechanics in his past three starts… Let's see if it continues to pay off… Snell has allowed nine runs over his past three starts, but held opposing batters to a .227 average… 59 percent of his pitches went for strikes, resulting in a 12:10 K:BB… His fastball returned to the high-90s in his last start

Lineup Notes: Todd Helton enters the game with 1,998 career hits… Garrett Atkins was pulled for a pinch hitter in the ninth inning Friday… He sits Saturday… The Pirates acquired Eric Hacker from the Yankees Saturday afternoon

OAK @ DET

Dallas Braden v Rick Porcello

Braden got an extra day of rest after suffering a deep bone bruise in his last start… He has one walk over his past two starts…. Porcello won his past two starts and held opposing batters to a .214 slugging percentage

Lineup Notes: Matt Holliday did not play Friday because of an injured side muscle, prompting the team to re-call Aaron Cunningham… It's unclear if Holliday will be ready Saturday…Tigers are using their normal lineup

BAL @ KC

Rich Hill v Kyle Davies

Remember Rich Hill?… He's the guy you probably took a flyer on in March… This is his first start since starting the season on the DL with an elbow strain… He had 17 K's in 16.1 minor league innings (split between High-A Fredrick and Triple-A Norfolk) and a .116 BAA… Davies, seen as Greinke lite after his first three starts, has walked 16 in his past 27 innings… Opposing batters have hit .310 off him in his past three starts

Lineup Notes: Luke Scott went on the DL to make room for Hill on the roster… Nolan Reimold has one hit in nine at-bats

AZ @ ATL

Max Scherzer v Kenshin Kawakami

Scherzer seeks his first win in seven starts… He has struck out 16 and walked six in his past three starts… Kawakami has struck out 7+ in each of his past two starts, but has walked seven between those two games… He has also allowed five home runs in his past four games

Lineup Notes: Stephen Drew is 3-for-8 with a solo home run since being activated from the DL… Kris Medlen joined the Braves in anticipation of his Tuesday start… It will be his MLB debut

CIN @ SD

Edison Volquez v Josh Geer

Volquez had a 16-inning scoreless streak going into last Sunday's game, but allowed the Cardinals to score seven in 6.2 innings… He still struck out eight… He has 35 K's in his last 33.2, but also has 20 walks in that same period… Geer lasted three innings in his start against the Astros… He walked three and struck out none in what was his worst performance of the season… He has allowed seven hits in three starts… He has given up four home runs in his last three outings

Lineup Notes: Alex Gonzalez (oblique) returned to action Friday… Let's see how he does in back-to-back games… Adrian Gonzalez has homered in each of the past five games… The Padres acquired Josh Wilson off waivers Saturday

BOS @ SEA

Josh Beckett v Garrett Olson

Beckett has given up a ton of hits thus far… Ton = 50 over his past six starts… He still has 41 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched… He also has 20 walks… Olson is spot-starting for Erik Bedard (hammy)… Olson threw five innings (96 pitches) in relief on May 6, so stamina should not be a huge issue… He started 26 games for the O's in 2008

Lineup Notes: Javier Lopez cleared waivers… The post-Brandon Morrow era begins in Seattle… David Aardsma should have first dibs on saves… Yuniesky Betancourt makes a second straight start after Ronny Cedeno got two starts at short… Endy Chavez is in center… Franklin Gutierrez has the night off
