The Minnesota TImberwolves have been in the lottery 13 times in 20 years. Many seasons it was the only thing to look forward to. Yet on Tuesday, the T-Wolves continued their streak of never improving even one spot in the draft order.

They've basically had the worst pick possible every year. I figured they'd win this year since it's one of the weaker drafts in recent memory.
Any win still wouldn't make up for 1991-92 when the T-Wolves won exactly 15 games (6 less than any other team) and should have had the top pick if not for the screwy lottery system. Shaquille O'Neal was the clear No. 1 pick that year. Instead, they got the worst possible spot ... picking third and taking Christian Laettner. Hum, that didn't exactly work out.

And sure you can mock Kevin McHale's failed first-round pick and trades all you want, but some times you need a lucky break to really turn around a franchise.

Personally, I think the draft lottery has outlived its usefulness. It was just way to stop teams from tanking games late in the season. But they still do that anyway. Maybe they should at least put in the T-Wolves rule and give a team it's actual draft spot if they have a bottom-three finish and they've gone 0-for-15 in the lottery.
