Training Camp Notes

Brandon Marshall was found not guilty in his misdemeanor battery case.  As a result, Marshall will not receive any type of disciplinary action from the NFL.  Whether he will have his trade request granted by the Broncos remains to be seen; for now he will focus on getting his hip healthy.

Brent Celek separated his shoulder in Thursday night's preseason game, according to coach Andy Reid.  The severity of the injury is unknown at this point.  Celek was a nice sleeper heading into the season with L.J. Smith taking his act to Baltimore.  He posted 10 catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC championship game last year, so hopefully the injury doesn't keep him out long.

Calvin Johnson (thumb) will be a game-time decision for the Lions on Saturday.  The thumb must be feeling much better for him to be even considered for this game.  It sounds like the type of injury he could play through had this been a regular season game.  Personally, I think he'll post a better fantasy season than Larry Fitzgerald.

Tom Brady threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday night's preseason game.  So far, so good for Brady's recovery from knee surgery.  In other Pats news, Chris Baker snagged both touchdown receptions with Ben Watson out with an undisclosed injury.  Baker would be an interesing #2 TE pick if Watson's injury keeps him from starting the season opener.  Randy Moss had 3 catches for 54 yards and with a healthy Brady, he'll be a top-5 WR.

Chaz Schilens had five catches for 52 yards in Thursday night's preseason game.  Schilens heads into his sophmore year penciled in as the #2 WR in Oakland.  With Javon Walker out with a knee injury, Schilens got the majority of targets for the Raiders on Thursday.  He scored a touchdown in each of the final two games last season and is becoming an interesting speculative pick.

Rashard Mendenhall rushed nine times for 24 yards on Thursday night.  Mendenhall got the start with Willie Parker sidelined with back spasms.  Although his numbers weren't spectacular, he reported no issues with his shoulder, which ended his season early last year.  He should get the ball near the goal line and is a valuable commodity for those in leagues rewarding touchdowns.
