What to Watch: Week 10 in College Football (Part I)

Wednesday

7:00 PM ET ESPN2: Rutgers 4-3 @ South Florida 4-3 (-10.5) - The Scarlet Knights might be only 4-3, but they're 1-1 in conference play, which means they're still in the hunt for the Big East title (sad, I know).   Their offense is highlighted by sophomore Mohamed Sanu, who is a jack of all trades as he can play a little bit of QB, RB, and WR.  Frosh QB Chas Dodd is set to start again over sophomore Tom Savage, who has battled injuries this season.  For South Florida, they have to hope that the B.J. Daniels that played against Cincinnati last week, shows up again this week.  Last week he was 13/16 passing for 286 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs, while also gaining 35 yards rushing and scoring 2 TDs on the ground.  The Scarlet Knights have won 4 of the last 5 against the Bulls.

Thursday

7:30 PM ET ESPN: Georgia Tech 5-3 @ #22 Virginia Tech 6-2 (-13) - The Hokies are right where they want to be in the ACC... undefeated.  Senior QB Tyrod Taylor is 4th in the nation in QB passer rating (171.14) and hasn't thrown a pick in his last 3 games.  He can also hurt you on the ground as he leads the team with 65.9 rushing ypg.  Sophomore RB Ryan Williams (hamstring) is finally starting to get healthy and contribute to the offense.  Last season he was 5th in the nation in rushing ypg (127.3).  They'll be facing a Yellow Jackets team that has to win this game, if they want to remain in the hunt for an ACC Coastal crown.  Their triple-option offense is led by senior QB Joshua Nesbitt, who passes and runs for over 80 yards a game.  They also have three RBs who average over 25 ypg rushing.  They can't fall behind early because they only average 13.1 pass attempts per game (2nd fewest) and Nesbitt hasn't been accurate at all this season (38.2|PERCENT| completion).  Their defense will have to play better against the run than they did last weekend, when they gave up 236 yards on the ground to Clemson.  The Hokies have won 4 of the last 6 in this series.

Friday

8:00 PM ET ESPN2: UCF 6-2 (-2.5) @ Houston 5-3 - This game will go a long way towards helping decide who wins each division of Conference USA.  The Knights are leading the Eastern divisions by only 1 game over East Carolina, while the Cougars are tied for the lead in the Western division with SMU.  Neither Central Florida nor Houston has faced Southern Miss, who has one of the better offenses in the conference, so nothing has been decided yet.  Knights frosh QB Jeff Godfrey is a duel threat with 125.8 ypg passing and 49.3 ypg rushing.  Their defense is what makes this team so difficult to defeat.  In 6 of their 8 games, they've held their opponent to 14 points or less.  As for the Cougars, they've started to right the ship, after they loss their Heisman hopeful QB, Case Keenum to multiple injuries.  Frosh QB David Piland has started the last four games with 277.0 ypg, 11 TDs and 3 INTs.  Junior RB Byrce Beall has been the one mainstay, leading the conference in rushing TDs (12) and rushing for the second most ypg (79.8).  The home team has won 3 in a row in this series.
