Don't Buy the Hype Surrounding Knicks Current Streak

After winning 11 of their past 12 games, the Knicks are getting tons of airplay. Here's a look at the Knicks schedule during their current streak:

·    11/07/2010: 113-106 win over Sacramento
·    11/19/2010: 125-119 win over Golden State
·    11/20/2010: 124-115 win over LA Clippers
·    11/23/2010: 110-107 win over Charlotte
·    11/24/2010: 99-95 win over Charlotte
·    11/27/2010: 90-99 loss to Atlanta
·    11/28/2010: 125-116 win over Detroit
·    11/30/2010: 111-100 win over New Jersey
·    12/03/2010: 100-92 win over New Orleans
·    12/05/2010: 116-99 win over Toronto
·    12/06/2010: 121-114 win over Minnesota
·    12/08/2010: 113-110 win over Toronto

Not quite Murders' Row. As of 12/09/2010, the 10 NBA teams above have a combined record of 81-138. Only two squads out of that bunch have winning records: New Orleans and Atlanta.

The Knicks currently sit at 14-8. They have won a total of two games against teams with a .500 record or better. Luckily, we get to see the Knicks faceoff against better opponents over the next few weeks:

·    12/10/2010 at Washington (6-15)
·    12/15/2010 vs. Boston (17-4)
·    12/17/2010 vs. Miami (15-8)
·    12/18/2010 at Cleveland (7-15)
·    12/22/2010 vs. Oklahoma City (15-8)
·    12/25/2010 vs. Chicago (12-8)
·    12/28/2010 at Miami (15-8)
·    12/30/2010 at Orlando (15-6)
·    01/02/2010 vs. Indiana (10-10)
·    01/04/2010 vs. San Antonio (18-3)
·    01/07/2010 at Phoenix (11-11)
·    01/09/2010 at LA Lakers (16-6)
·    01/11/2010 at Portland (10-11)
·    01/12/2010 at Utah (16-7)

There are a lot of home games to start off the stretch, and a couple gimmes (WAS, CLE), but the Knicks are definitely in for a tougher road ahead.

While the Knicks are no doubt a much-improved team, I'll hold off on anointing their return to prominence until after the next 14 games.
