Training Camp Wrap

Mike Martz said he intends to use Matt Forte and the rest of the offense in a balanced attack, similar to the one used in the last nine games of 2010 – The addition of Marion Barber to the backfield clouds Forte's fantasy value a bit, as he's likely to lose all short-yardage work. But while Forte has been a disaster at the goal-line over the past two seasons (3-for-28), Barber was just 3-for-15 from there in 2011 and is of little threat to take away a bunch of touches from the incumbent, and it's good news to hear the Bears plan on keeping the running game (and Forte) the focus of the offense.

Ryan Torain was spotted with a big wrap on his left hand Wednesday afternoon – Torain is easily one of the most injury-prone running backs in the NFL. He has talent, but the better bet is drafting Roy Helu much later (assuming Tim Hightower at this point goes first among Washington's RBs).

Nick Fairley is expected to miss three-to-four weeks with a foot injury
– Detroit's defense projects to be much improved, but let's not go crazy. This team will have to rely heavily on its offense.

Carnell Williams has agreed to a contract with the Rams – Talk about aiming low. Steven Jackson is a major injury risk, and the team is now backing him up with Williams and Jerious Norwood. They should have spent the money on Darren Sproles.

Kyle Orton was told he will be Denver's starting quarterback – With no team matching Denver's trade demands and a new regime in town, the Broncos are surprisingly going with the team's best option at QB opposed to Tim Tebow, who has more fanfare and fantasy upside thanks to his rushing ability, but it's hard to argue with the decision.

With Chris Johnson holding out, Javon Ringer appears to be the top running back on Tennessee's depth chart – Ringer has averaged 4.9 YPC during his brief NFL career and would make an immediate fantasy impact should Johnson's holdout last long or if he got hurt later on (something that happens at a greater frequency following holdouts). Ringer needs to be drafted in all formats.

Though Jeremy Maclin is back at the Eagles' training camp, he still can't practice until he is cleared by doctors due to an unspecified illness – Maclin is rumored to have been suffering from mono. I've never had mono (at least not yet), but I hear it can be quite debilitating, and he's apparently lost 15-20 pounds because of it. I'm not ready to move him down draft boards much because of it, but this is at minimum a situation to follow.
